 |
|
Ive had my gsxr for a year or so now and recently have been looking at moving up to a 750 for that 'little bit extra'. However, i love my bike and cant find a suitable 750 so.... im going to try downgearing.
What should i do? -1 at the front? anyone done this? much difference? How much top end will i loose?
Will it involve new chain etc or just the front sprocket swapped?
Thanks ____________________ Current : '08 Yamaha FZ1s

I'd personally go two down on the front and two up on the back. That way you keep the number of teeth the same and can use the same size chain.
Also, I'd probably just get a new chain and sprockets unless the chain is brand new, because it isn't the best idea to have new sprockets with a worn chain.
If you go one down on the front then you won't notice the difference.
Also you should try to keep the total number of teeth on the sprockets an odd number so that the chain doesn't run the same links over the same teeth each time.
{edit} and you'll hardly notice any loss of top end unless you regularly do trackdays at Snetterton!! {edit} ____________________ British beauty: Triumph Street Triple R; Loony stroker: KR1S; Track fun: GSXR750 L1; Commuter Missile: GSX-S1000F; Cheap project: CBR900RR FireBlade

Ive been running my 600 k1 with -2 off the front and +4 on the rear for about a year, ive also changed some of the internal gearing, so mine will be slightly different. straight line accelleration is fantastic, great for sliding the rear out of corners. On yours though that set up will drop your top speed to about 140ish. You will get an increase in fuel consumption nothing too major and your speedo will be out and at legal speeds will be over reading by about 10 mph, but a rough guide is about 10mph per 1000rpm in top eg 5000 rpm = 50 mph, one thing I have found is in the wet weather the rear spins up a lot more, in the dry the front heads skywards. If you dont want to change your bike then go for this. Its worth doing and ask yourself how many times do you redline the bike in the first three gears against how many times you redline in top, you wont miss the top end mph. ____________________ We're all just born to die.
