Got the motor back together today ready for fitting into the frame, when kicking the engine over there isn't much compression. Is this normal for "dry" barrel thats just been put back together? Im hopeing this will improve when the engine is drawing in its air/fuel mixture?

lol how do you expect compression with a big hole in the top of the head Laughing

it should be fine mate whack the plug in if your not sure, the air you hear is the air escaping past your finger because its not a proper seal, try it and im pretty sure you will feel the different, if not the base gasket probably isnt seated right

The small ones don't have much compression anyway, you can start most 2 strokes by hand. Once you get some oil in the barrel and the rings bed in it will improve slightly.

You haven't done something silly like fitting a standard size piston in an oversize bore have you?

Get some oil in it, then see the difference.

If you dont mind wasting time in having to take it out again, then i would just fit it all up and then fire it up.
