(currently riding a black 1991 GPZ, so I can't be too critical Wink )

He rode it to work yesterday and decided we take the quick route up the motorway (crawler lane at 100mph).

Was sunny yesterday.

You could be on the pavement and that'd be classed as a fast lane.

I really wouldn't use a split link on that - in fact it shouldn't pass an MOT with a split link on it.

My bandit 600 passed several MOTs with no problems at all with a split link.

Split links are OK on smaller capacity machines, (non-sports) 400's and below. Once you start getting about 50bhp I would class it as an 'incorrect locking device' on the chain and fail it. On the larger machines they are just not strong enough to cope with the power.

Really? You're lucky with your tester then.

I don't doubt you, but I've never heard of a machine failing an MOT because it has a split link. I have only had 2 MOTs on the bandit, but both have been fine.

Same with my XJ600, that had a split link.

well mot testers do vary a lot

i had a bike fail on brake pads that had nothing wrong with them, and i had another bike with a broken mirror pass with the comment "you are going to get that fixed arent you"
