first time ive done them myself

so i took the rear off changed the pads, put it all together in the reverse order of taking apart and tried them out

first couple of presses were really loose as i expected because the pads need to get in close to the disc but now it seams like im pressing real hard to make the rear wheel lock compared to the old pads

anyways is this just because they need to bed in or have I mess up TO THE MAX

Hmm odd advice. Sounds like you did not bleed them properly.

If you haven't touched the fluid, then it is probably only a case of them needing to bed the pads in. Give the pads a week to wear to the same shape as your disc as presumably this is the old one and will have some wear on it.

They should feel firm and very 'keen'
There must be some air in the system.
Being a back brake you might leave it a little while to see if it improves, not really a big deal to bleed them.
Slacken bleed screw on caliper block and gently pump them - have ample spare fluid to top up reservoir.
When no more bubbles come through, tighten bleed screw.

Yeah definetly sounds like theres air in the system. If its the first time youve bled brakes it will drive you mad, but you get a knack for it eventually Thumbs Up

How far back did you push the pistons and how fast?

If done correctly you don't need to bleed the brakes when changing pads.

They will need bedding in to get to their full potential.

You havn't contaminated the disc with anything have you oil/WD40?
