I was wondering something about my RS125 - lose of power sitting at traffic lights or whatever. I have to either keep blipping the engine because if i keep it at a steady rate (be that 2-5rpm) i lose power and the bike near enough cuts out :S Is it because its a 125cc 2 stroke? or is there actually a problem im not aware of.

Thanks in advance Thumbs Up

could be that its not getting enough fuel, meaning a dirty carb or prehaps a dirty tank (less likely)

could also be his spark plugs on its way out or his battery needs charging.

Thanks for the replys, I've just recently charged the battery to full ( just got it back and running for the first time in 3 months )

Its -alot- more noticeable now, just been out on a little ride, a few miles, finding myself revving to 5-7k rpm to keep it from cutting it out and stopping is a no-no Smile. Leaving the bike ticking over is fine, just when my speed is up and down. I lose all power in 1st gear unless im above 6-7k rpm revving the knackers off it which I dont want to just yet because of the 3 month stand still.

Anymore suggestions or answers would be much apprieciated!

Brod. Very Happy

Sounds like fuelling or spark.

Have you checked the plug to make sure it isn't fouled?

Checked my spark plug, or was about to until I relised that when I pulled my tank up I have a slight leak of petrol dripping out - it's fine when the tank is down in position this could posibley be my problem or designed to stop overflowing of petrol - I don't know.

Any ideas?

Thanks ~ Brod

check your reeds mate
my cagiva is exactly as you've described, sitting at lights and the revs idle smooth then drop and the engine cuts out. iv got a small hole in one of my reeds. had this problem before on my scooter too, changed the reeds(they had a small hole in them too) and the problem was sorted!

so check your reeds for a very small hole and also check the edges are not a bit frayed.

between the intake manifold and the engine. if you take the intake manifold off(its what the carbs connected to) you'll see the reeds take them out aswell and have a look at them make sure their not damaged in any way if so replace them Thumbs Up

first pic is what the intake looks like when you take the manifold off and the location of the reeds.
second pic is what the reed valve looks like
