Yesterday after about 5 to 10 minutes after getting on the bike the temperature gauge shot up to 124 degrees, on came the warning light. The fan kicked in at about 101 as usual but didn’t really seem to make a difference.

I stopped the bike, checked coolant etc, all seemed fine and the engine didn’t seem that hot (glove off to feel the heat coming from it), but oddly enough the radiator was fairly cool???

Anyway, I’ve taken it to the garage for them to check it over. But was hoping someone has any idea what the cause is lightly to be? Stuck thermostat, ECU problem??

I'm hoping that its nothing too serious as I’ve only had the bike for a couple of months Sad

btw it's a 2001 TT600 with 5500 miles on the clock.

If the fans kicked in, probably a sticky thermostat. Could also be an air lock in the system if it's been drained recently.

Cheers, hopefully its just something simple.

No recent coolant changed though (well for about 2-3 months anyway)

When I first read that, I thought you must have a bike made of the finest quality sensors for the fan, guage and warning light. then I realised you have a computerised dohiccky with a single sensor and the ECU running the various outputs.

With the engine not feeling hot, I guess the good news is that it is indeed a sensor or ecu problem. hope it's not the ecu, it will not be cheap to replace.

Possibly even just a simple wiring fault, but expect a lot of humming and haa-ing fron the dealer, plus they will automatically replace something expensive, then look for the wiring fault, then charge you for the expensive thing anyway.

finpos.

I should be (hopefully) ok as its still within the warranty period from the dealer.

I hope!

tt600's do run hot, but not usually that hot

check the oil level using the dip stick, and the level of coolant.

my tt600, is currently running a bit hot, which im a bit concerned about, and im not quite sure what to do next

mine only gets to 103 tho, and shortly after that it will cut out

if its overheating now, whats it gonna be like in the summer ?

i havnt checked for airlocks yet in the coolant tho

i did have to mess with that a while ago to refit and exhaust, so i might have an airlock.

but then a year ago, i did have to have the temperature sensor replaced after dropping it, and i have dropped it since, so i might need that again
