PostPosted: 03:06 - 09 Jan 2007    Post subject: I'm a tad "angry" Reply with quote

Got robbed at work today.

Nobody hurt, just a bit frit. They got our money and phones.

Five black lads, no more than 18-21 years old.
You can imagine how angry I am.
More angry than scared.

But even I was intimidated, and it happened so quick that I just gave them the money and yelled at them to get out, cos I had three girls and a customer on the premises, and I was worried about everyone's safety. Tried pulling one of them's hair to try and get some DNA, but then decided it wasn't a smart move, LOL, in case he turned on me, so I backed off.

Apparently one of them picked up a knife off our worktop and went for me with it, but I was busy making sure they didn't take my laptop ... so I didnt even notice it.

Been expecting it for a while, cos they've been doing a lot of similar establishments in the area for a month or two, and they'd been to "visit" us (but didn't get in) during the Xmas period.

Plod managed to get a palm print off our front door where the bastards were shouting through the letter box. So hopefully they might get one of them, but apparently there's at least ten of them doing flats locally.

We're half expecting another visit, cos their MO has been to come back after a week or two - cos obviously they've not yet been caught and they have become very cocky little cunts, coming back to places 'cos people have been handing over money by being menaced.

I was not happy to hand over any dosh, but with girlies screaming and my "modified defence system" over the other side of the room, there was little I could do against five tall albeit lanky boys (less than half my age, grrrrrrrrrr!). They were all stronger and more menacing than me Evil or Very Mad

But we have been accumulating local intelligence for a while now, and we know where they hang out.

mr hellkat is with me now, doing the boyfriendly thing, back-patting and ranting spectacularly. He, like several other people involved or others whose flats have been done lately is talking up the vigilante aspect ("Nobody pulls a knife on my Mrs and gets away with it!") ...

... but I'm more concerned that he will get (a) hurt himself, or (b) banged up for twatting the scrotes himself if he sees them round town. I know men have to feel as though they want to DO these things, but I don't want to see him in danger or trouble himself.

So I'm in a bit of a quandary. A sawn-off pump-action with extreme prejudice is looking good right about now, I'm so angry ... but such items are not terribly law-abiding things to have, I wouldn't know where to find (let alone how to shoot) one ... and obviously one can't be taking the law into one's own hands (although you can imagine how much one WANTS to) ... LOL

But so far ... I'm okay. Got a toothache that just won't quit, which is taking me mind off it all Rolling Eyes

So for the first time in over four years ... its not always a bunch of laffs down at the old knocking shop.

Jen
prolly still in shock, but mostly Bloody Annoyed

Shit mate, not much advice I can offer but good to know you got away unscathed! Could have been much worse and you seem to have kept a cool enough head during the whole thing.

I hope they catch the bastards!

oh, well thats no fun is it!

at least the police got something, and you didn't get hurt.

just out of interest, what kind of place is it that you work, i presume a shop of some kind? Money should be covered by the insurance?

Hope they catch them soon, so nobody else has to go through the same ordeal.

Cunts and lowlife scum.

That is all Evil or Very Mad

Glad to hear you're ok'ish Jen and best of luck tracking the bastards down and giving the lot of them a f**king good kicking.

How did they threaten you guys into giving them your money and phones? Guns?

Shit!

Glad to hear nobody was hurt and you did the right thing in throwing money at them so they'd leave, I'd consider stepping up security if they've been known to return, or set up a 'booby' trap. Wink

Good to hear you weren't physically injured. (And they never got your lap top. Phew....)
Your insurance will sort out the cash I'm sure.
Get your place sorted like a Paki Offi (The 'cage' where they sell the bevy from.)

Don't worry, if the police catch the little rascals I'm sure they'll be given a rather tough Community Service stretch slammed on them.

always better to keep your hands in your pockets and not try any counter measures.

Unless you are specifically trained in the art of self defence.

What would your chances be if you hacked an arm off with a machete and claimed self defence?

I mean there were 5 of them Thinking

You need some Big Blokes hanging about in the vicinity outside I reckon (or does that scare the punters off?) who would be able to sit on these guys (maybe literally).

Sad Glad you're OK

They picked up the knife off your side?

May not have been armed in the first place then, which is surprising.

You should be able to get hold of a weapon if you wanted.

I'd beef up security then let it drop as if you retaliate it could very quickly and easily escalate. Security may be a sensible option with your line of work.

Sounds a lot like the young kids who used to regularly burgle my dads hairdressing shop.

They were a bit thick, cos the only thing they could ever steal was hair gel. Rolling Eyes

But the thing is, every time my dad called the police they said that they couldn't do anything.

"We can't do anything cos some of them are under 18. As soon as they are over 18 we can throw the book at them!"

With that kind of attitude, I'm not surprised that some people take the law into their own hands occasionally.

Plus it sounds to me that being arrested would add some credibility to these guys, whereas getting a beating would probably make them think twice.

Its funny really, I never used to think like this, but my faith in the police has been so destroyed recently that I'm starting to think it is the only way.

I'm not advocating violence, but I certainly feel physically vulnerable to mugging/robbery, and I don't trust the police. So what can you do?

Its a catch 22 situation.
