Passed a (presumeably elderly) rider on a Honda C90, doing 45 on the M61, wearing Tesco carrier bags instead of gloves!

Am I missing something?

I know Charley Boorman wore a black bin liner to keep warm on the early morning stages of the Dakar rally, but that was over a lot of safety gear!

Carrier bags?? Confused Wtf?

45 on a motorway? surely that must break some kind of traffic law, impeding the flow of traffic or something?

If they take so long for the polymers to break down and degrade, maybe they think they'll stop sliding before that happens! Shocked Wink

Funny shit though...

You'd like to think it was over his gloves... but who knows? Maybe the germans are somehow behind it... Thinking

Nope. Perfectly legal to take a 90cc motorbike along the motorway, I've done it myself. Rode a C90 up the M6 from Kendal to Carlisle

The surprising thing is how many vehicles you overtake.

Every time I've taken my H100 on the motorway I have used the right hand lane at some point during the journey.

Im strapped for cash, and my gloves are not exactly waterproof. But i just put up with the wet rather than wear anything to really remedy it.

I heard that gloves of the Sainsbury's variety are much more impact resistant.

I overheard a group of bikers chatting at Boxhill saying that their mate, Dave, crashed his GSXR 600 at 156 miles per hour and slid along the ground on his hands. The only thing that saved his life was the Sainsbury's bags he was wearing at the time.

depending on the conditions, there is not much that beats a carrier bag at wind deflection. I've used them before to keep warm.

A lot of gloves are simply not up to the task anyway, so carrier bags may be better than some peoples current pair.
