Got a parking ticket today Sad
The parking bay in Notts was full so I parked right next to it and chained my bike to a pole and returned to find a ticket on the bike. I was literally 2 feet away from the rail the rest of the bike's were chained to. Nath from here's bike was next to mine and had a ticket on it when I got back too.

So you werent in the designated bike parking bay then?
So you were parked illegally?
So you got a ticket, live with it, park in a bike bay next time.

Found this
Quote:
Q - Apparently I received a parking fine a few weeks ago, I'm sure I was parked in a designated motorycle parking bay and there was no ticket on my bike?

A - The Road Traffic Act is quite specific on this. A Penalty Charge Notice (PCN) must be either fixed to the vehicle or handed to ther person in charge of the vehicle in order to be legally enforcable. Parking adjudicators allow more appeals on this issue than any other.

Not to be tried in London, as the parking attendants in the City, Westminster and Kensington & Chelsea (at least) carry cameras and take a pic of the offending vehicle with the PCN firmly on it.

i didnt think you could get parking tickets on bikes? iv parked all over the pavements in wimbledon SW19 never had any problems! even parked outside the abbey bank in queens rd on the pavement right in front of a traffic warden and i mean basically at his feet and he never even said a word to me let alone give me a ticket!!

IF i ever get told by a traffic warden to move my bike off the pavement il argue with them stating that my bike's tax class is BICYCLE see what he/she says then. iv never see a cyclist get told to move their BICYCLE off the pavement.

Well I have... I've even seen push bikes effectively clamped (chained up) and with fines attached!

Government really can be money grabbing gits can't they.

Afterall why do we have parking fines?
To stop cars clogging up every where and taking up space, a bike hardly takes up anything and bikes only account for 1% of road users anyway.

Totally out of order if you ask me, unless it was obstructive or dangerous they really are being pedantic penny pinching wankers.

Not strictly true. some not-too-honest parking attendant took pics of my bike without the PCN on it in Westminster. I ended up taking the case all the way to the parking adjudicator and won it, as they couldn't prove they had actually issued the PCN. There was also no date and time on the PCN, which makes me believe they simply took a pic of my bike so they could later issue me with a bogus fine at their leisure. ALWAYS appeal if you have the slightest doubt. They are a bunch of corrupt individuals (I struggle to use the term 'people'), and they'll try it on in any way they can.

AFAIK it's illegal to ride your pushbike on the pavement, so they'll probably still get you to move it.

ah well, that would stop the money grabbing ba$tards from virtually cheating you out of £££'s, they could never dream of such a thing!
i park where i want, when i want, if i get ticketed, there will be a loophole somewhere, plus the c^nts still being nearby is the best bonus Twisted Evil

Because, as far as I know, most of Europe has a much lower population density than the UK has?

They recently 'out sourced' the parking enforcement in Chippenham and have started getting arsey about where bikes park. This isn't a major problem in the centre of the town as there is a bridge that gets used by bikes for parking with no problems. However there is a bike shop up by the train station that has double yellow lines right across the entrance to their workshop, with parking spaces either side, so the lines are obviously threre to stop people blocking thier access. Unsurprisingly, in the first week the new company was operating the bike shop got tickets for 3 bikes that they had placed there (one was a customers!) as they needed some room in the workshop! Laughing

Parking fines are like speeding fines - you know you're breaking the law, so you've got to expect to get caught at some point.

In London, they're very hot on parking tickets (nice little earner for them, innit?) so it's not worth risking it.

On my walk to the office (I work in London and commute by train as it's quicker and cheaper) I walk along Liverpool St. in the City and there used to be a 'bike parking bay. It's been painted out, and yellow lines put down instead, but for the last two weeks people have still being parking their scooters there - and having them ticketed and towed away.

Open your eyes, use your brain, and don't get a ticket. I'm sure those that were parking in Liverpool St. have parked in the same bay for ages and just didn't bother looking... Still, after £100 fine (more if you're towed) it might encourage them to be a bit smarter next time.

*Update* (3 and half months later)

As Chris said in his original post, my bike was parked in the same place at the same time and also got ticketed. I ignored the ticket, then after a month they sent me a letter demanding payment, threatening an increased fine if I didn't pay, and giving me the option to appeal against the fine. I waited 28days and sent the form off back to them at the last minute appealing the fine.

I got a letter back with photographs of my bike, and an more detailed explanation that my bike was illegally parked because it was "in the bicycle parking bay next to the motorbike parking bay". Again they demanded payment of the fine, or I could appeal to the National Parking Ajudication Services, against the council. Again I waited the full 28days then sent off my appeal form at the last minute, requesting a personal hearing with the adjudicator.

I got a letter back very promptly acknowledging my appeal and telling me by when to submit any evidence I would be using. A few days later I got another letter giving me the date and time of the hearing with the adjudicator. A few more days later (this morning) I got another letter, this time from the Council's parking services, telling me that they're canceling the fine.

What a bunch of robbing fucking bastards. Their letter explained that they were "letting me off" on a "technicality", and that I was indeed "incorrectly parked in a bicycle parking area". That's total bollocks and even the most retarded traffic warden in the city must know it. No bikes have been ticketed for parking where I was or worse since Christmas, so they must know full well that their parking tickets had no legal basis whatsoever, yet they still continued to try and extort money from me claiming I was parked illegally.

Their letter offered no explanation why they refused my first appeal to the council, yet cancelled the ticket the moment I appealled to the NPAS despite me offering them nothing but a quickly scribbled outline of my case, written in 15minutes during my lunch break. Believe you me, this is not the last of it and I am gonna do my best to get a personal meeting with some senior person in the council and worm an apology out of them. It fucking disgusts me, I had to spend my valuable time filling in these appeal forms, spend my money on stamps to send them off, and I'd started taking photographic evidence to use in the appeal hearing which took me at least an hour of walking around the city to gather. That works out at about £1.50 in postage, and 2hours of my very important and precious time. I am not happy with the outcome of this, they are fucking vermine, trying to illegally extort money out of the innocent law abiding working man grafting his arse off to earn a living enough to allow him one pleasure in life - To ride motorcycles.

/End of rant. I really hope the thread-starter, Chris_biker, never payed his ticket, because that would put him £60 out of pocket for doing absolutly nothing. Don't be a victim of council and government sponsered extortion, defy them at all costs.

I was in Blackpool with a few mates on the bikes, We were going to park the bikes up but saw a Traffic warden hanging around so we went upto him and asked where the nearest, safest bike parkng bay was. They guy gave us the directions and even met us at the bike park. said that he would make regular patrols of th area to keep an eye on the bikes. True to his word when we returned to the bikes he had just gone past the bikes on his rounds. He may be a one off, but at least you know he is there.
