I recently moved back in with my Parents. Both my sister and my dad have Laptops which are running wireless. When I moved in I just hard-wire'd my computer into the router and away I went.
Now when we do online speed tests, My sister and dads lappys are only pulling somthing like 2.5mbps, and thats on a 10meg line. Now my computer is shifting a whooping 6+mbps on the online test thing. and takes -1 second to download the test file. The laptops are taking +2 seconds.
If I was to go wireless, would it sap all my bandwidth like the laptops, or is my computer faster as its a more powerful machine. With almost Double the RAM.
Also another quick question. my dad wants the network securing as the neighbours keep sapping all our bandwidth by wirelessly connecting to our network. Can I do it from my machine which is hard-wired.
And if so, what is the exact web adress I need to type in. I know its somthing like https://"my IP adderess".com. But I cant seem to get that to work.
Oh, and we have a None static IP, will it still work by http:ing our "current" ip?
Cheers

There are a couple of ways to secure the network, but you'll need to log into the router to do so. The IP address for your router from your network should be listed in the instructions that came with it (mine for example is https://192.168.1.1). Once you can access your router, either amend the wireless settings on the router to use encryption, or set up the firewall to allow/deny access to the network based on the computer's MAC address (this is the way I've done mine).
