Suspension/Height Raising

Have a 2001 NSR125R. Does anyone know, is it possible to raise the suspension/height a bit (say about 1 inch?)

It's possible, but you need a specfic tool- if you look at the shock you can see an adjusable ring at the top of it... Front end's non-adjustable though (apart from physically lowering the yoke on the forks...)

You can't raise the front as such, but you can stiffen it up by using heavier weight fork oil and overfilling it slightly. We did this to Kris' to overcome the fact that he totally dwarfs the thing Wink

How hard is it to refil the oil, you dont have to take the seals out do you?? And do they drain easily, or do you leave them hanging up for days with a constant drip coming out Laughing

??? I feel mine bottoming out, they havnt had new fork oil in the 12yrs of its life, most probably shot then!!

Get a syringe with a length of rubber hose, take the fork nuts off and siphon it out... Refill and replace the fork tops - voila!

Thanks, sounds quite easy, but i do have a knack of cokind things up!!! Ime 10stone, what weight oil do people recomend???? I want them to be a bit stiffer, ive got into a few nasty slides when they bottomed out, and i think this caused the front wheel to skid.

Hi

Fitting thicker oil does not make the forks stiffer really, and wont stop them bottoming out. The springs make them stiffer. The air gap above the oil acts as a kind of spring, so using slightly more oil will make the forks stiffer, and using slightly less oil will make them softer

just stiffened the rear suspension (preload) and its great the bike now handles much better and feels like it wants tobe on the track, all i need now is stiffer springs for the front forks!!!
