Hi Guys, I have a problem in that my exhaust appears to have rusted at the join between the back end and the front end. Looking at it , I could see how it could be fixed so have tried a couple of exhaust repair goods available at Halfords (putty, bandage etc..). They don't seen to have worked but I think that a welder might have some luck fixing it. Is this a good idea? basically the cost of repairing it might be more than the cost of the bike (I've had some silly quotes). Any ideas welcome.... |

You've got two problems:
1. The two parts of the exhaust will be moving against each other. So any non structural bodge (bandage, filler) will just shake itself off. I guess you've discovered this for yourself
2. It's tricky to weld rusty metal. If you ask someone to do it, they will give you a sod-off quote. I guess you discovered that as well
If you are desperate to fix it yourself for cheap, the only way to do it is to make a long sleeve, which can fit either inside or outside the existing tubes. The idea is to provide some mechanical strength. Use big clamps to keep it in place, and use some elastic type of filler (high temp silicone) to stick it all together.

To give you an idea a complete Motad Nexxus replacement will set you back 411 knicker The Downpipes and collector are 305 and the silencer 223. Best bet is either a used system or take a pic of where yours has gone and post on here. |
