hi, ive just bought myself a 94 cbr 600 track bike.

its got ohlins internals in the forks, a ohlins rear shock and a ohlins steering damper.

it also has yoshimura rearsets with a race pattern gear change.

i am sending it to have valve clearances checked and the carbs set up so it runs smoothly in a few weeks and im also going to change the plugs and give it a full service.

i want to know how to change the gear shift back to normal as i'll end up forgetting and id prefer it normal.
also is there anything i can do to improve the bike? as compared to my k7 gsxr it feels ridiculous( as expected) and also what year bikes parts are interchangable so i dont need to make a new thread every time i want to buy something

any advice welcome as it wont be getting used until next year ive got plenty of time to work on it. thanks in advance.

Follow the connecting rod from the gear lever to the engine. Where it joins the engine there'll be a little nubbin that the connecting rod bolts to, and the nubbin will bolt onto a splined shaft.

Unbolt the nubbin and put it back on turned 180degrees.

So if it points directly upwards, you want it pointing directly downwards.

One of my shittest descriptions ever, but that's how to do it.

What ever position this is, unbolt it and turn it 180* on the shaft from the engine to return to standard shift pattern. It is the end of the linkage from the rearset

Get a build thread up, you can put any issues you have in the one place

HTH

Edit: too slow, Gaz got there first

It may not be quite as cosseting; but then a new bike set up for track use would be less so too.
However, if you want to improve the bike; the best thing you can do is to spend your time and money on riding it on track.

Also an excellent investment because it'll transfer to your next track bike too Smile.

When you say improve what do you mean compared to your K7, make it more like it? An out and out track bike should feel nothing like a road bike on track. A road bike will work in 80% of situations, a track bike will work in 20% of what you'd do in a road bike situation but work well on a track most of the time.
Sounds like it has good basic kit on it to start with, best thing you can do is make it fit you in terms of bar/footrest position, decent track tyres, take it to bits and clean and fettle every bit of it (you've got the time) then ride it hard and see what needs changing.
If you know someone with track experience get them to give you an opinion, crack on and hope you enjoy it!

Suspension is key. You're doing alright there. Maybe find some settings (or get it set up specifically for your weight). As said before, some decent tyres, make sure the brakes are in good order (stock brakes are plenty good enough but some braided hoses and race pads will add more bite).

Then just do trackday after trackday. You'll soon find out what needs tweaking/improving

no, i didnt expect it to be anything like my k7, and i was thinking about getting the suspension done after xmas when i have some cash. with it being a track bike i havent been able to ride it yet so dont know what it rides like at the min. may try to ride it before i get it done to make sure it needs it.

its already got metzlers on it and tis had a 180 rear conversion for some reason. no one i know has any experience on track. me and my mate have both done 2 track days each and both at donnington on our road bikes.

i know it must sound like daft questions but i thought it worth asking.

thanks. sounds like id be better off buying tyres and track time than anything else,

just ride it! Seriously - do as said above - make sure EVERYTHING is in good working order and condition - brakes, chain/sprockets - change the fluids -espec brake fluid and if not fitted add braided lines and pads as said and go ring the neck out of it.
I have a ally cbr - totally road standard with 30k miles of abuse on its suspension and it rides pretty damn well for a bog standard bike.
Tyres are key, get some decent track rubber - it was my first season this year and running in inters/grinding pegs on it - it goes really well, very easy to ride, I would like to try my 750 on the track though Twisted Evil
