 |
|
Right, I want to get a heart rate monitor watch. Need a female fit one obviously Am looking to start exercising pretty seriously over the next few months, and wanna make sure I'm not going at it too hard.
Need to know if there are any that can monitor your HR without a chest strap? If so, what make/where can I get them/how much??
Would also like to know basics about them (can I wear the strap all the time whilst at work or is it "dangerous" etc?)
Any recommendations?
Thanks ____________________ <CBT passed 16th Sept 2007><Theory Test passed 11th Oct 2007><Practical Test passed 19th Apr 2008>

As far as I know they only work with a chest strap. It would be no problem to wear it all day, although it may get a bit uncomfortable after a while! They are eay to get on and off as they have little click releases on the side! ____________________ Love is 1050cc |

Off the top of my head, Nike, Polar and Sunnto.
I've used a nike one before, they are very effective, though mine did have a chest strap. Can I ask why you dont want one? You'll find the one without wont be as accurate even though they claim to be.
Fot something accurate and strapless your looking at £££. HTH. ____________________ https://www.facebook.com/p/Francis-Lloyd_Cummings/630915297

The best way to tell if you are excercising in the correct zone for your body, is to wear a HRM
Tell's you what the "ideal" heart rate is to burn the most fat etc. ____________________ <CBT passed 16th Sept 2007><Theory Test passed 11th Oct 2007><Practical Test passed 19th Apr 2008>

What
A heart rate monitor will show you how fast your heart is beating.
Burning fat doesnt happen in a particular 'zone'. Simply the harder you work, the more energy you will use. that energy is stored in the body as fat.
If you are very fit you will have a low heart rate. Still takes the same amount of energy to perform a task as it would an unfit person's whose heart rate would be far higher.
I do see its use as a training tool but personally, i'd just measure my fitness by my performance. For example, i used to run 3 miles and be knackered, now I can do 5 or 6 and barely be out of breath.
I got fitter, dont need a hrm to tell me that. ____________________ Where does a turn end? 'Where you can do anything with the gas you want to, where you are brave again, where your attention is free from the turn, where you are sure you can do it better next time; that's the end' - Keith Code. |

Actually weight loss does happen in a specific 'zone' as you put it.
If you want to lose maximum weight you have to keep your heartrate lower than maximum as your body won't start losing fat efficiently. If you are really into muscle gain then over exercising your heart and doing anerobic exercise is good for that, but if weight loss is your goal don't get your heartrate too high. ____________________ Love is 1050cc |

You can also get to know when your body is coming down with colds etc. when you monitor your heart rate and know it's normal patterns. This can be quite important.
A lower heart rate doesn't always relate directly to fitness, there are other more important measures like VO2 Max.
What is scary is how low the resting heart rates of cyclists can be. Michael Indurain used to be 28bpm.
I have to be honest though, the fad of wearing a moniter soon wore off |
