It seems Motorcycle Direct are no longer happy to give me stupidly cheap insurance quotes.

Got a letter through yesterday that said "Equity Red Star can no longer offer you a competetive insurance policy".

Even though I will be 19 in a couple of weeks with 3 years NCB. Laughing

Doesn't matter anyway, have to take the Bandit off the insurance cause it is long gone and insure the little GS125. But have been getting quotes of £200 just for a 4 stroke 125. Rolling Eyes

Ringing around tomorrow it seems.

£200 isn't too bad for a policy - of course I don't know how old you are, where you live or what you claims history is...

Yeah try MCE, but ring them last, once you have all your other quotes.

Do the usual "You're the last people I'm calling, the cheapest I've got is £200 (for example)" they'll then probably either match it or be a few quid over your cheapest so far. Tell them "Well Such-and-such comes with this-and-that and you don't" then they normally put you on hold while they go talk to someone about it or something. They'll come back with a cheaper quote but it might be a bit dearer on the excess. Tell them you're going to go with the other company still cos their excess is cheaper or something. They'll shit their pants, put you on hold again, and come back with a dirt cheap price with all the extras Thumbs Up

Well that's what they've done for me for the past two years running. They offered me a renewal of £630 this year with my 1 extra years NCB (it was £680 last year), so I rang around and Devitt were cheapest at £420. MCE's first offer was £423, then £391 but with no legal cover and £250 excess, then the final offer was £361 with all the gubbins (still £250 excess though) Very Happy Thumbs Up

Can't believe my renewal is nearly half the price of last years Surprised

Unless that is fully comprehensive that is appauling...

If the bike is completely standard try choice quote, might also be worth having the policy start on your birthday if you can afford to go without a bike for a couple of weeks.

OK, I need glasses...

There's no substitute to ringing around, I'm afraid. Each insurance company will have an ideal profile of the 'bike / rider they want to cover, and if you match it you'll get a very good rate. What you actual pay depends on how far away you are from their ideal profile.

When you get quotes of £2000 or whatever, what they're really saying is we don't really want your business, but if you're prepared to make it worth our while, we'll do it.

Get out the Yellow Pages and started phoning. Don't forget to try local, independent brokers too.

HTH Smile

I know about all the ringing around malarky! Which is how I got £220 TPFT for my Bandit last year.

That'll be the job then Jack.

Certain professions in certain industries are statistically more of a risk than others qhich is why they always ask what you do for a living.

The thing is, i thought going from student to flt driver full time would reduce the quote!
