a mate of mine, who doesn't even have his motorcycle provisional yet has just bought a TZR. Seems he was determined to get something quicker than my poor little KH125.

Hopefully his bike is restricted, but even then I imagine the Kh125 will have trouble keeping up.

Are there any cost effective ways to improve performance on an old air cooled two-stroke?

Obviously the aim is to do a DAS but thats some way off right now.

even when he gets his provisional he'll be limited to 14.6bhp.

And no, not without compromising reliablity for very little power gain.

If you wanted a quick 125 why didn't you get an RS125/Mito?

No worries, just like be sure i'm getting the maximum I can out of the bike.

There is no point spending much on it since the money can be used to work my way upto and through the DAS

Only if u went with the sheep and bought an RS...

Mito MkI / II (twin round headlights) is still respected as a distinctly non-chav bike - they all go for the EVO Ducati replica or the RS instead.

TZR? If it's a standard then I wouldn't worry too much. If it's a 4DL then it comes with 33bhp as standard, complete with race-setup, over-sensitive steering and chances are he'll stack it on the first roundabout he comes to.

As for improving the performance of your bike, I'm afraid the only answer is to fit a rocket engine to it or put a load of nitromethane in the tank. Neither of which are very cost-effective.
