Hey peeps! Mr. Green

I'm really interested in training to become a race marshall but what's involved and where do I start?

Can you be specifically bikes or just track racing in general?

Any advice welcome! Thumbs Up Wink

i thought it was a link.

i think the best way to go about marshaling a race is to talk to the people that run them, maybe shadow other marshalls so you can see how they do it. theres probably a training course or something as long as you talk to the right people.

I'm almost certain you need to be ST John's Ambulance trained, they may even do special courses. That's about all I could tell you though.

Thanks very much for that Big_Ham! Wink

Just looked on the St. Johns website and they do a course specifically for motorcyclists so if you're right I'll be doing that at the end of June. Will probably be worth doing it anyway! Thumbs Up

Anyone else with useful info?

Contact your local track or race series, they usually hold their own Marshall training days, me and Maurice did one for bemsee but never got round to doing any marshalling.

I suspect you will have missed all the training days now the racing seasons are all under way but you never know.

Because by writing in blue you are annoying the people that may want to help you?

There is many reason I post on here rather than myspace, that is one of them Smile.

Get along to any Bemsee meet and you can start being a marshal with no specific training I believe. While it may seem to be 'jumping in at the deep end', you will be placed under the control of experienced marshals and should be given appropriate safety briefings etc.

Generally marshals aren't expected to offer any first aid unless it's something really obvious - ie bloody gushing out, but that shouldn't happen too often with leathers - a medic can generally get to most cases within a minute or two I'd say if needed.

Have a look on the Racesafe website here: https://www.racesafe.org/

racesafe wrote:
What an accredited marshal is
An accredited Racesafe marshal is one who:

has attended a Racesafe Novice training day (or its equivalent)

has marshalled at 12 club or BSB meetings satisfactorily and had their Racesafe card signed

has subsequently become accredited by attending a Racesafe

Training and Development day.
To be remain an accredited Racesafe marshal you have to attend a Racesafe Training & Development day at least every two years.
Training and development days

There are usually about five or six of these sessions held before the season starts, normally in January and February. One of these days is specifically a novice training day. Anyone who has no marshalling experience, or has only done a few meetings should preferably come to the novice training day.

The other days are aimed more at people who are experienced marshals, already receiving or maintaining their accreditation.

In addition we try to put on an additional Novice training day mid -season, often this is arranged at relatively short notice so if you think you might want to attend one, keep an eye on this web site, or preferably get in touch and we will contact you.
