Hi guys.

I was wondering if anyone could help me. My speedo drive is knackered.

I have all the bits to form one fully functioning speedo drive. The only problem is, I need to replace the worm (41060) but don't know how to do it.

There's a "pin-spring" (41082) that obviously needs to be removed but don't know how. It doesn't have a screw head on it or anything like that.

Thanks for any help. The bike is a ZZR600 and shares a similar set up of speedo drive to other Kawasaki bikes.

Thanks for any help. Thumbs Up

Going to take a guess here.

Is 41082 a 'drift pin' ?? i.e. nothing more than a tight fitting peg that is tapped out and back in again.

It looks like a very tiny gudgeon pin. Laughing

Only problem is it's only got one open end. Easy to tap it in. Not so easy to remove it.

Possibly just have to drill it out and buy another. Sad

Are you sure 41063 is not threaded? Stick a small alen key in, it might be or twist out.

Something looked very familiar about that speedo drive... turns out it's the same one they used on the GPz 750 Very Happy

SOOOO.... from the 900 manual:

Try drilling it from behind (where there would have been a hole if they had drilled all the way through) and try drifting it out.

Just had a thought.... I might give it a bash on mine and see if it would work... was thinking maybe try finding a small screw and screwing it into the pin then use a claw hammer to pull it out (might need a quick spray of WD40 first though (the pin not the hammer))

Andy, don't try anything that might damage your speedo drive.

The good worm is needing to be removed from a case that has split in two. I can abuse that and experiment with that first rather than you damaging your speedo drive case.

I'll need to do the same on the good case so at least I get a practice run. Thumbs Up

it wouldn't be the first part I've damaged by experimenting LOL

I did have it off the bike a few weeks ago and thought about stripping it and cleaning it... I decided to just spray it then wash it out with white spirit then repack the grease after a few days to dry out.

I've found there is a lot of things the manual says you 'should do', doesn't always mean it's the quickest or easiest way (as I've found out quite a few times... but then I'm sure in the manual they aren't left with a large tub of bolts afterwards)

"pin spring" sounds like another name for a roll pin to me?

essentially a piece of sprung steel rolled into a tube:
https://www.partsreloaded.com/images/rollpin.jpg

if it is one, just the sproing of the pin will be holding it in place. a drift of the correct diameter will help (sacrifice a drill bit the correct size?) along with heat, plus gas and patience.

Of course it may not be a roll pin... but if it is...

in blind hole?

drill hole same size as pin on blind side, and tap out.

take your time....dont rush it and all will be well. Very Happy
