My mate's just traded in a VFR like yours Rob for a 'babyblade' CBR400 and is well impressed by the hike in horsepower. I've had a go on it and its a really good bike. Worth considering if you need an intermediate step before going to a bigger bike. It's capable of a powerslide if you ride it like the VFR - as he found out on the way home |

Frankly, I think most of the 400s are pretty much adept for everything except motorways.
Aside from that they are mostly pretty comfy, light and pretty darn flicky especially in traffic.
Definitely depends what kind of riding you want to do anyway. You might be better checking out other 400cc's, or maybe a different style bike altogether.
Mind you if you want a sports bike nothing I say will make a bit of difference.
edit: Figure that I will add, is your VFR restricted? I know a lot of the 400s, especially the imports from Japan had a restriction of some sort. In the speedo I believe. |

I was hooning around the other day on my Bandit 6, went around the outside of a CBR400 or a VFR400 (Cant tell the difference... rectangular rear light) on a roundabout and got back up to speed, i noticed while i was pulling from him i wasent leaving him at all, got to the next roundabout and realized he was game, so took that nice a neatly and got a good drive out again, on the next one i have wrongly assumed he has given up, so have broken for the roundabout with plenty of room to spare, gone round at a leisurely pace but started driving out down the straight pretty fast, only to see him just off my right side obviously wanting to get past...
I knock it down a gear and go go go, but because he had obviously started driving all the way from the roundabout exit, he had the legs on me... cheeky git on a 400 ... Anyway the road was lovely and straight (and for the purposes of anyone who is interested obveously private,....), We have gone neck and neck to 125/130, nothing in it at which point we were both flat out and looked over and exchanged grins , i can see him and he looks like hes going absolutely flat out, chin on the tank kinda frantic last gear change, the kind when you know you have no power left on your last gear so getting it right could be the difference, i would say i was 95% percent of the way to flat out, wasent taking it to redline, but was by no means letting him by... anyway it was a photo finish to the next roundabout (i have this mate you see with massive private land, with roundabouts and the like ), He dident seem to be as confidant on the brakes, and at that roundabout we went our separate ways... Me being quite impressed at what them little 400's can do.
Now a bandit 6 is not comparable to a 636, and no doubt a kwaker woulda left us both there but i think you will enjoy whichever you get |
