Well basicly I took my van for a MoT yestaday ands it failed on a fair few bits. I've left it at the garage untill tuesday when the boss gets back and can tell me how much its going to cost to fix it. But from what I can remember I was told on the phone, here is what it failed on:

Two tyres
a window wiper
3 break lines
And something wrong with one of the headlights?

Its an old n reg 1.8 escort deisel van.

Depends on how much you want to spend:

2 x Tyres = £35-50 each (budget brands from Kiwi-fit, ATS, National)
wiper blade = £2 Wilkinsons
3 brake lines = £100 ish + fitting + fluid + VAT
headlight adjustment = tuppence

so say £200 - 300, hope that helps

Its the brake lines that kill it¬

Should hopefully be the nice side of £200, if in doubt shop about especially for tyres and window wipers etc

Yeah and that's if you fix it yourself! Don't forget labour charges, these monkeys are so intelligent they get paid £35/hour don't you know?

if youve not already given the go ahead to them, then why not ask for the two rims so you can go get some part worns fitted, and then say you will also drop off the wiperblade on your return with the tires. Fit the blade yourself, and that done, you would be looking at no more than £40ish quid?

then the brake lines (do they mean flexi hoses or the lines running front to back?) will be the biggest concern Smile

Well I got it back from the MoT place and they said the bill will be sent to me in the post so I dont know exactly how much its cost me yet, but I did speak to the boss before the work was carried out and he said it would be somewhere in the region of £200.

Only thing thats really pissed me off is I've got the thing home, had another quick look round, and heard a load hissing coming from my front right tyre. Yes indeed I've got a puncture already, but it is one of the old tyres so I'm not that bothered. Just means I'll be having to put the spare wheel on tommorow morning. (yay) Laughing

£200 is pretty good if you ask me. Dont fit a new tyre you can get punctures repaired very cheap.

It would be interesting to see how much they charge for the brake lines. I pay £10-£15 for 25ft of copper pipe and the fittings are 20-50 pence each.

I havent actually had the bill in he post yet. I was pretty shocked how laid back the place was. It was done at a builders merchants that does mot's on commercial vehicles. He took my name and address when I spoke to the boss on the phone, and when I arrived to pick it up some bloke was just like, "bills in the post, keys are in it".

The first time I took my wife's car to a garage up here was a small place in the village. The work came to a few hundred quid but the bloke just drove the car round to our house and just told us to pay him when we had the money!

Felt really weird for someone to trust you having spent 30 years living in the middle of Birmingham.
