External Hard Drives

Hi,

Since my laptop had a lot of thing that i would find hard to replace (mainly music and uni work) i think i need to get an external drive.

They all seem to be huge and i found THIS one which looks ok but not sure i need 250gb when my laptop hard drive is 40gb.

What i wanted to ask is, can anyone recommend me one that might be a bit cheaper? dont really want to spend £60 on one when i only need 100bg max of storage?

Thanks for looking, £80 is a bit more than i would like to spend TBH. Plus the fact that i really dont have 500gb of stuff that i would like to back-up.

Though, on that site i found THIS ONE FOR £54

That would be a good one to go for?

I've heard they've improved recently, but WD used to have a bit of a reputation for going "bang" with little warning. Having said that, I've only heard positives about the MyBook drives so you'd almost certainly be OK.

The problem you'll have when looking for cheaper options is that after a certain point drives don't get cheaper by size. look at the internal SATA drives, a 40 gig drive is £25 and a 160 is £30. Add on the expense of a USB2 enclosure on top of that basic cost and you can see why not many bother looking below the 200 gig+ mark Wink

There is of course another factor here, however much hard drive space you have, you will fill it...

Got half a dozen of the MyBook's not had an issue with any of them in 12 months.

The only problem is them not auto turning on and off with my machine now and then but i think thats more due to my homebrew usb hub Embarassed
