VFR400 NC30 Ideas

Hi all, I was thinking as I finish my A-Levels soon I want to start messing about my my bike and maybe get another one.

Think you've got some competition from this forum for the bidding...

In a race situation where every 0.5bhp is vital then yes, that would be a good idea. If you're just looking to tart up a road bike then I wouldn't waste your money.

It's unlikely to make enough difference to warrant the amount of money it'll most likely sell for.

Anything with the initials HRC are instantly expensive.

Consider stripping it down and giving it a damn good clean, see Craig's project thread in the show and tell forum for ideas. Maybe get the suspension sorted for your weight, that's a worthwhile project.

I'm with Gaz.

The main performance problems with the NC30 is getting the suspension sorted for UK sized people. This is likely to be far more beneficial than the HRC Scoop.

Don't get me wrong it's a great piece of kit, but it opens up a whole new can of worms. Really it needs using in conjuction with race pipes, open air-boxes, much larger main jets...... It will also go for silly money.

Get your suspenders first, easily worth 10bhp.

Thanks very much for your reply, muich appreciated it. Suspension? I am really not that hands on but willing to give things ago.

Also, are there any larger capacity engines from other models of bikes that you know of, that would fit into an NC30 frame?

You're not hands on enough to change your suspension but you're willing to try and shoehorn in a bigger engine?

Get your priorities right, and walk before you run.

Get a haynes manual and have a read. The short answer with the engine is no.

The less-short answer is yes, anything is possible depending how much work/money you're willing to throw at it.

I wasn't saying I was gunna do it myself. Me and a mate also riding a VFR was thinking about it as a project on the side. The only problem on mine is i use it every day so i cant afford to mess up.

It's a silly idea. The best you can do is fit a big bore kit but unless you do it properly and get everything set up to perfection then you'll end up with reliability problems.

I'd recommend leaving it as is and upgrading when you can.

Ok thanks for your view. It was merely something for us to do over the summer to keep us busy. I checked the manual. As i have the 89' VFR I cant change the front forks suspension apparently. And there is very little info regarding changing the rear shock in the book. Can anyone shed some light?
