 |
|
I'm planning on a bit of Father/Son bonding in the Summer, and am planning a trip "Up the Mountain".
I know there's a few forum members that live in the North Wales area.
I just wondered if anyone can recommend a decent B+B in the area.
Ideally in the Betws-Y-Coed (ish) or Nant Peris (ish) areas.
Thanks for reading. |

Can't recomend a B&B as such but I can recommend the Youth Hostel at Pen-Y-Pass, they do bed, breakfast, evening meals, packed lunches, have a bar, and are ideally placed for walking Snowdon or the Glyders. You no longer have to be a member to use the hostel, as father and son you could get the 2 bed private room as a "family room" so you wouldn't have to bunk-up in a male dorm. Showers and WC etc... are shared down the hall, you also get reserved, reduced rate parking at the Pen-Y-Pass car park. www.yha.org.uk/find-accommodation/wales/hostels/Pen-y-Pass/index.aspx
PS> I'm not a member anymore, but I think this is possibly their best placed hostel ____________________ My claim to fame: Austin Vince nicked my pen... |

Llanberis is the best bet but it depends on the route you want to take up Snowdon. Just go to the area and there are literally hundreds of B+B's there. Try a Google for "Snowdon B&B
I would suggest another mountain than Snowdon as its a shit hole and gets very busy in the summer. been up it on every route and it never gets any better.
Carnedd Llewelyn is much better as is Tryfan and they are just a stones through from Snowdon. ____________________ Andy Sez....

Hmm, betws-y-coed is a bit of a shithole to be honest, probably a better bet would be places in Bangor
Theres a great B+B just towards the entrance of the A5 next to the pier called the Y Garth. Really nice couple run it, not too badly priced and they really go the extra mile. I stayed there for my resit last summer.
If you're coming on the bikes the run to betws is really quite pleasant, takes about half an hour. Also very close to Ogwen lake which is a picturesque body of water between about 3 mountain/hill things which is usually swarmed by walkers so its gotta be a good thing.
Also bangor is literally the crossover to anglesey, which is by far more picturesque and interesting scenery wise. ____________________ China traffic/travel bike vid - When I make a sweeping statement, please add the word 'statistically' in to the sentence before you bitch...

You sure you didn't walk up the pyg track and back down the miners those years ago? That's the more traditional route, and easier. The thing is with them you start almost halfway up the mountain at the car park. It'll be a decent effort for a young lad still.
The Rhydd Ddu (sp) path from the South is pretty good, you can combine it with climbing Aran which is scrambley and quite fun. Took some photos doing that route last May https://www.bikechatforums.com/viewtopic.php?t=85774&highlight=snowdon |

I've stayed in one called Bryn Bella in Betws. It's across the river from the main part of the town but there is a suspension bridge across so it's a 10-15 minute walk into town.
A few too many fulffy toys about the place but the people are really friendly. He let us keep the bikes in his garage too. This year we arrived for the Dragon rally (in February) covered in snow. He hung all our gear up on his Aga too. ____________________ “Rule one: Always stick around for one more drink. That's when things happen. That's when you find out everything you want to know.”
