Hi all,

My nsr 125 wont start.... the starter relay clicks but nothing else.
It will jump start quite easily but even after a long run still nothing.

The battery seems fine...lights are ok (charged it up to be sure).

Also this happened with no warning... the bike was starting first time and then silence.

Any suggestions.

Thanks for any advice

I'm having the same problem mate.

I just fitted a new spark plug and it starts perfectly but it feels weird, like its misfiring or something

U might wanna try that though, I got mine from Halfords

It could be a problem with the starter motor... have you got an alarm fitted? I had a very similar problem on my zx6 with a Datatool Evo alarm. The alarm fuse had blown, it still worked but stopped the starter motor from going (just a relay click) so I had to bump start it.

Does the starter turn over?
If not then the problem lies there. Check the wires, it may be a loose connection.

I have an alarm fitted and it still works... i checked the fuses yesterday and all seemed ok.

The starter does turn over at all... only a click from relay.

Will check the wiring tonight.

Cheers

Did you check the *alarm* fuse... this is usually to some degree hidden, it definatley won't be with the others.... it had me fooled for quite a while as everything else (including the alarm) seemed okay.

I'm not say it *is* this, but it's quite possible.

I had that kind of problem on my bike...

...my lights worked, but the starter would only click, and not "churn"...

I attributed this to the battery, and/or the fact that my fuel tap was off! (D'oh!)

...I basically charged it up (using Optimate jobby), and made sure the fuel tap was on...

It works very sweetly now.

Hmm

I got the spark plug sorted, and seemed to be starting fine earlier. When I just went to leave the bike meet tonight, it wouldn't start Embarassed sooo embarrasing

So could it be the starter motor? How can you determine if it is the starter motor?

Cheers muchly,
Dodd

Easy! It's only the starter motor you have to turn, not the bloody engine!! Wink

if its a HUGE engine they fit a VALE LEAVER that opens the valves (no presure) so u can kick it over!!

I used to have to *bump* start my klr650... very, very nasty, the zx6 is a whole laod easier, so I'd expect a High-abuser wouldn't be *completley* ridiculous (you've only got to start one 325cc cylinder and the rest should get going).

Dodds

If the bike turns over but just doesnt fire then the starter is almost certainly OK. In which case check the plug, plug gap, choke, fuel, etc. As your bike has just been run in and had bimbled round at low speed for a while you probably did the right thing replacing the plug (make sure you get the right grade of plug). Probably worth changing the oil now as well (now it is run in)

All the best

Keith

Cheers Keith mate

the mechanic told me that the gap in the spark plug would be fine, though he didn't measure it.

He also gave me a different plug, he said the one I bought had a resistor in so he gave me a better one... maybe this plug doesn't match up?

Cheers,
Dodd

Hi

The resistor is mainly there to match up with the ignition system, and prevent radio interferance to everything around you. The important bit is the number. With NGK plugs this goes up, with the higher number being cooler plugs for hotter running engines (the cooler plugs transmit more heat out of the cumbustion chamber). At a guess yours should be a 7 or an 8 (that is a guess). Use too cool a plug and you will land up with the bike fouling the plug round town, too hot a plug and it will blister and fail

All the best

Keith
