HI Very Happy I have just bought an NSR125 RR and was riding it back when about halfway threw the journey she started to splutter and lost power and when i tried to rev her she just died.I then after a short while got her restarted and then after a bit more riding she done the same again she done this the whole way home which was about 20 miles. Does anyone know what is wrong i have only previously ridden scooters and the guy i bought it from said it was working fine and hes no help Sad Sad can anyone suggest a remedy. Cheers all....

Fuel starvation perhaps.

The way the fuel line runs round the airbox can cause a kink - it has done to me.

Have a look.

Spark plug getting cooked? First (& cheapest) thing to try - new spark plug.

Or something as silly as leaving the choke on and flooding the engine!

(If it has a manual choke that is!) Thumbs Up

Sounds like a slly question. But is your fuel tap turned fully clockwise? As if it is in the res. position, you may be running out of fuel in your reserve tank, and the fuel in the tank, sloshing about, may replace a little fuel each time you go round a bend, but not enough to keep the bike running smoothly.
I had done this myself once, when i first got the bike. I had forgot to turn the fuel tap back to "ON" after filling up.
Or, check for a kink in the pipe, as stated earlier. Or the fuel filter may be clogged.
Does the bike fire ok when you start it?

if the bike has been stood for a while there could be some water in the tank, which will also cause the symptoms you describe.

Once you've got it home, check the hoses, throw in a new sparkplug for good measure (BR8ES for about 3.99) and fill the tank up with fresh petrol.

Go out riding, just local to start with and gradually increase the range as you become confident with its reliability.

Thumbs Up

If you lift the tank up there should be a breather pipe. If this gets kinked then it can create a vacuum in the tank after a while and prevent fuel from leaving - thus starving the engine of fuel. After a while the air will seep back into the tank, releasing the vacuum and enabling the fuel to flow again. So hopefully if you un-kink the pipe then all will be good again, with no need to change spark plugs etc.
