Yeah right!! ha ha

Seriously though, I have a little CG125 and it chuggs along nicely at 45mph.

At a push i can get 55 / 60 on the motorway giving me just enough power if im lucky to overtake the lorrys... occasionally not (That can be quite embarrassing moving out to overtake and having to back off with the lorry driver looking down at you bemused!!)

My question is.. Is it possible to get anymore power out of the CG?

I have cleaned the filter, new sparkies, Filled up with Optimax, Oiled and lubed and still a paltry 60Mph.

Would there be any performance parts i could buy to maybe get another 10Mph out of her.

Yes, I know performance parts and CG125 shouldnt be in the same sentence but still, all im asking for is a little top end boost.. pretty please.....

Any help would be appreciated.

Cheers,

John

Basically, no, but it will run a little better if you don't throw money away on Optimax, the CG can't use the extra octanes.

It's fully derestricted, short of major engine work it will never get any faster. Pass your test and go 33bhp.

I presume he has passed his test if he's on the motorway...

Years ago, Performance Bikes magazine fitted nitrous to a CG125. it blew up within 30 seconds.

However, it might not be a silly an idea as it first seems. You could probably run one on a low level of boost all the time. They do this with monkey bikes.

Passed test years ago and owned a Thundercat for many years but sold a year ago due to pressure from the missus and a new arrival!

Bought the CG as a little economical commuter but frankly the top end is a little shocking!!. In hindsight i should have gone for the CB250 but im stuck with it now and it gets me from Leeds to York every day.

Would an aftermarket airfilter improve things??

ALso, How can i tell if it is De-restricted (If indeed it is at all?!?)

Cheers,

John

I have a good tip for you. When you're going flat-out and are crouched down with your chin on the clocks. Put both feet on the pillion pegs. Take your left hand off the bars and place it in the small of your back. Now arch your shoulders as if you had a humpback.

You should go noticeably faster.

Be easier and cheaper to get rid of the CG, it's a popular learner bike so people will want it and get a 250 like you say, or similar, they're cheap because no one wants them.

Its not a two stroke, it naturally makes 12bhp without any artifical restrictions. Therefore you will need MAJOR engine work to get more speed.

If I had a penny for every time someone asked if a four stroke 125 can be derestricted, I'd be a rich man! Smile

Well thanks guys. Confirmed my suspicions.. The CG is crap on the motorway!! ha ha

Nitrus would be great. A quick blast would let me take over lorrys easily but for the money spent i might as well get a 250cc onwards!

My main priority was fuel economy and the CG certianly does this giving 250 miles + per tank. Its just a shame the top end cant be 5 - 10 MPH faster.

Might have a look round for a CG250 as i belive they still have 90MPG economy!

Oops, Yeah, thats the one i meant!

I've heard you can get some special 'Power Bands' for the CG that increase the power quite dramaticaly and are very cheap and easy to fit.

Does anyone know where i can get some from? Wink

I know that on the CBR125, if you go to a 14 tooth front sprocket (standard is 15 tooth) then it will increase the top speed an accelleration. I know going lower on the front normally increases accelleration but decreases top end but the CBR does not have the power to rev out in top. By going lower on the front it enables the bike to rev out in top - therefore increasing the top speed.

I'm assuming the same will apply to a CG as they are very similar bikes. Thumbs Up

EDIT: The ''power bands'' you're referring to are non-existant. Only 2 strokes have definate 'power bands' and this is just a section of the rev range where the engine pulls especially hard, not like an elastic band Razz

EDIT#2: Just realised you were taking the piss Doh!
