yes, point and laugh... another CB400 superdream thread.
my problem THIS time is i think the rev limiter is set to 6krpm.
if i rev the bollocks off it, it bounces on 6k. ANNOYING when riding it.
anyone got any super cool tips for someone who doesnt know anything about tackling the adjustment of a rev limiter or what one looks like or ANYTHING about them apart from they're annoying if set wrong? ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. I thought the limiter was hard wired into the CDI, so it can't be changed easily. ____________________ My Flickr |

a 250 CDI doesnt work, just toiled for 10 mins in the rain to get angry splutters so i swapped back
how would i reset the timing?
(i can build the things, but adjusting them is new to me )
just so im sure, a CDI is the little box under the tank opposite the box the spark cables are attatched to?
cheers ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. In summery, mattsprattuk is a gobby little sh1tebag, dopehead tw4t, but sadly for all of us, he probably isn't THAT full of sh1te!!

i really couldn't tell you tbh. Sounds about right though.
Did you do any work on the bike before it started stuttering at 6k?
only way the timing would get out of whack would be if you'd had the cam shafts out. ____________________ My Flickr |

the top cover on the engine is different to the rest, so it may well have had the cam shafts out.
it isnt a sudden problem, its been there since i got the bike.
i take it its not as simple as pressing a 'reset' button is it? ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. nope, i think it involves taking the cams back out and putting them back in the correct position. That is assuming it's the timing. Although i'm not sure what else it could be.
CDI perhaps? Coils?

yes, the rev counter is mechanical, got one of those groovy spinning cables
i dont think its reading wrong, because i physically feel it lurch forwards as it gets to 6k.
if someone has put it back together wrong, would that still be the case if it revs perfectly up to 6k?
ive ridden bikes with rev limiters on before, and it feels exactly the same, im just not sure how the rev limiter works. ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. thanks kickstart, ill try and get hold of some of them.
it revs out at 6k in neutral and in gear.
if one spark isnt sparking past 6k, would that suggest bad plugs? ____________________ Blue_SV650S wrote: it was a sh1te wheelie, but it proves that he can get it up in 3rd and can do angles. ok, im now beginning to steer away from the idea that it could be cam timing...
rather than at high revs it spluttering, its doing it as i turn the throttle more.
eg: if i go very slowly from 1000 to 6000 its ok, but if i fully neck it it bogs down and struggles for 3000.
this suggests a fuelling problem/air intake right?
i dismantled my airbox and had a lil' ol' lookie.
what i found was another smaller filter inside the filter. this was damp... normal?? it smelled a bit like petrol, not entirely though.
are air filters supposed to be 100% dry?
i also took out the metal mesh gauze covering the carbs because i checked my choke wasnt stuck, cant get the bassard back on
any ideas? it seems physically impossible!
it wont affect the bike, so im not too bothered.

OK JAMIE
first thing i would do would be change out the plugs for new ones, then if still being a pain, see if one side is still cutting out.
change the coils over and see if the other side is cutting out, if it is then its a coill issue and best bet is to replace the coil,
if its still the same side with the coils swapped then have a look at the wiring,
make sure you are getting good contact at the join where the 2 coils get there power.
ill post a super dream diagram in a bit ____________________ the humans are dead
