Stupidly crazy brilliant!

(yeah deadly bored)

I have some R&Gs to protect my bike and fairings when I come off the bike right?,

I'm thinking why not have something R&G like but for helmets? , what was it RepV who
spent like £500 on a helmet, stick them on with rubber suckers , NOT like real R&Gs
I sure wouldn't want a 3 inch screw pushed into me head.and they are sort of
sacraficial armour plates which break off in layers protecting your deadly expensive
helmet underneath!

I mean my fairings cost a fortune to fix and repair , why not have some sort of R&Gs
to protect helmets? , sure I mean they wouldn't protect in a major spill but then R&Gs
would not protect your bike in an Andy C type incident anyway!.

your thoughts!

Err, assume it is a joke.

As the force would still be transmitted to the lining which would still be damaged.

Added to which having bitspoke out would make it far more likely to twist round when scraping down the road, breaking the wearers neck.

All the best

Keith

It's not the outside of your helmet that you worry about. It's the inner "padding" that deforms when it's used.

We just need helmets that detect when you have fallen off, and just before hitting the ground inflate a bouncy-castle size cushion around your head.

Sorted Thumbs Up

Shocked wouldn't of thought if that Embarassed what about a rubber type "glove" that wraps around your helmet, avoiding scuffs etc and as it's about 5mm thick, it might just make your head bounce a lil, not doing too much damage. Do bikes have airbags? Imagine slamming in the side of a car/van(when it pulls out on you) and having an inflated pillow stopping you head butting the car/van as it comes vertical out the top of ya speedo unit Cool

Why not just buy another - much larger - helmet to put over the first and save it getting dirty aswell. You'll also benefit from double-glazed visors Smile

Of course everyone knows although they don't look as trick metal bars are better at protecting in a crash situation, HEAD CAGES FTW! (in fact you could leave the macaw/parrot/canary/raven in there for extra l33t ness)

Keith summed it up nicely, apart from looking like a melon it has dangerous side effects just to save your helmet.

I think if i came off and my helmet got mangled (so a pretty bad off) I'd be thankfull im alive and the helmet did its job Very Happy

Sounds like just the trick. Very Happy
Actually I find the awareness of financial danger is good helmet protection. If I drop the bike doing a U-turn it could cost me hundreds of pounds, so now I just paddle it round with a bit of gas.
Hopefully the result is that if I have to replace my helmet again, it will be paid for by someone else's insurance.
Cock up a U-turn on a 125 and stamp your foot down, cock it up on a 600 and down you go. Sick

That idea has actually been trialed. It had two rubber layers with a lubricant between the two so they 'slip' against one another. I believe it was quite effective but I can't find any references about it. I presume the idea was dropped for some reason.

Mind you, the Australians did a series of tests on helmet materials (they are big on helmets in Australia, it's a legal requirement to wear one even on your push bike). The best one was two tupperware bowls, one inside the other.

Crikey, never knew that, I spent a month breaking the law every day then Twisted Evil I always wear a helmet over here but while I was over there I was just pottering about town, going to the shops etc and never really got above 15mph

The ironic thing there was that the R+G on one side was about the only thing that wasn't damaged on the bike Laughing

Your helmet is an R&G for your head. You wouldn't be looking for crash bungs for your crash bungs now would you?

Nuff said.

Not sure it quite sells the point that they prevent damage to the fairing... Being that the fairing isn't even there anymore, or the fuel tank, or the front end for that matter! Laughing Tis miraculous really, every time I see that picture I feel a little bit sick in my stomach.

I see that the foot peg's on that side have also survived Shocked

"Look, everyone! I completely and utterly trashed my bike! But look at my R&G! Not only did this ugly and expensive accessory fail to protect my fairings in any way in this crash, it stayed on the bike as a sick reminder that the fairings were trashed with or without it!" Wink

Maybe i should drop an email to R+G and raise my concern about their product just not being up to the job Laughing
