Came home after a ride out to Hartside yesterday, and the whether had been alright-ish, was a bit on & off with the rain but pretty much dry & had a good run out. On the way home, when I got back into Newcastle the heavans opened & it was absolutely pishing it down. I came off a roundabout near Westerhope & the back wheel spun out a bit. I got it back in control & the next thing I know all the traffic has stopped in front to let someone out of a house on the side of the road. I grabbed the front brake (foolishly too much with it being wet) & the front wheel locked up & I was headed right for the rear windscreen of a car. I couldnt do anything about it due to traffic on both sides so I had to just bin it & ended up sliding half under the car whilst my pride & joy slammed into the kerb & the car in front. Sad I was alright, didn't hurt at the time & I was wearing full leathers thank god, but needless to say I was a a tad gutted! My poor bike is in a right state. 2 Cops came, sirens blairing & the full works, breathalised me etc etc, but it was all clear. I rode her home & she felt alright I just hope I havent damaged the frame/forks etc. Confused

Here are some pics...

Absolutely no idea how the petrol tank became so dented, cos there was next to no damage to the guys car (bumper clipped out of place, & he had a yellow scuff, that was all that could be seen [at the time!]). The worst thing is she was immaculate before this. Bastard eh, but shit happens I guess. Could have been worse. Thumbs Up

Watch them roads! Wink

Cheers lads. Yeah you're exactley right. I just hope she can be! Just been speaking to the guy I crashed into & he's a canny bloke by the sounds of it. He's not gonna go through insurance so I'll keep my 2 years no claims (thank god!), and I've told him I'll go round with someone to sort out whatever damage has been caused to his bumper (he says its just got a yellow scuff on but it clipped back into place no bother. Bonus! Thumbs Up ).

I feel like a bit of a tit but happy it wasn't any worse. And it certainly won't stop me from riding (this is my second crash, but the first that was kinda my fault! Embarassed ), just make me even more cautious, which can only be a good thing I suppose! Smile

As soon as I clicked 'post', I thought, maybe I shouldn't have named the thread that, just in case. Sorry if I've offended anyone, I'll change it if I can?

I'm just gonna replace all the panels. I wouldn't care I've got a perfect spare left hand panel in the shed, but its the right panel thats damaged! Sods law eh? Rolling Eyes

Hey at least you hit someone who sounds half decent. The bloke could of been a real git about it and made you pay, minimum, for a new bumper, especially since he would have had the police to back him up.

There'd be a bit of diesel and oil near the roundabout no doubt, its been dry a couple of weeks and it soon builds up when there's a lot of HGVs about.

Thanks for all your comments, much appreciated. Thumbs Up I don't feel so bad about the whole thing now (maybe cos I'm still a bit pished? Shocked )

I had a better look over her yesterday (before an all day/night/morning bender! Only just got back home! Sick ), and I think it may be alright. I can kind of see what happened, I think the petrol tank must have slammed off the kerb to make that dent. The forks don't look bent or anything & the seals etc look OK, so I can't see the frame being bent or anything (I hope!). I'll just get some small indicators (was gonna replace the standard ones anyway) & another mirror off Ebay & sort something out with the rear brake pedal (I snapped it trying to bend it back in place! Embarassed ). I don't mind riding round with scratched panels etc for a while (people will know I ride the bitch hard & give me more respect, as Ace_Biker would say! Wink ) but defo gonna get it checked properly though first when I can afford it, I'm not taking any risks! Smile

I'll post more pics as I and when I have any developments. Cheers everyone. Thumbs Up

Well, I got the bike in for a check over & some much needed repairs & got her back last Friday night. Thankfully she's not a write off Thumbs Up But she's not as pretty as she was. Crying or Very sad

I got a new chain & sprocket fitted (she wheelies for fun now! Shocked ), which it was due anyway, a newish front tyre with plenty of tread, and they fixed the rear brake pedal & put a new engine bolt in (where the crash bobbin was, the old one had bent). I then went over Westgate Hill on Saturday & got a R/H wing mirror from a K4 750, and some flushmount indicators. Me & a mate stripped her down on Saturday & rebuilt her back up again with the new bits. Here's some pics...

Nude...

https://a622.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/40/l_2c00c687aa863a92d7dff5f8381f04fd.jpg

I was EXTREMELY tempted at this point to leave her naked/streetfighter, as I thought it looked quite mean & menacing!

Even more naked...
https://a316.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/61/l_686fa4c2d3b91ebf733cb3957ecbc533.jpg

I now have quite a few spare parts for her, but unfortunately not a good R/H fairing Sad

https://a244.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/33/l_e68de2ea5cf32cd25d9b9f27f47b730b.jpg

Back together again. Good as new!!...
https://a478.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/17/l_31c449f0094af09af8d99f1ba166c1b5.jpg

Well, from the left side anyway! Wink
https://a786.ac-images.myspacecdn.com/images01/32/l_057bbc9b94515a37373f8678708d4ef1.jpg

All thats really left now is to get a R/H fairing, new tank & a general tidy up (bit of black paint on the engine casing etc). I didn't bother with the fairing that they had found as it was also cracked & I figured I would just want to replace that in the long run anyway so no point. The flushmount indicators I got were absolutely crap with a capital C. They do not fit straight in at all & I had to file away at my nose cone fairing (I have a spare, or I wouldn't have put a file ANYWHERE near it!), but they do not sit flush at all & are sitting a bit wonky, so I'm not impressed. It looks fine from a distance but if you inspect it close p you can see it looks shit. Confused

But anyway, I'm back on the road! & whats better is they done the 4th service that it was due also and stamped my book. All in all it cost £201 for the lot, which is very reasonable I thought, considering I had a quote of £150 before parts for the service alone from another well known bike centre! Thumbs Up

How did you manage to get the faring for so cheap? £200 in total, thats astonishing.

Mind giving a break down of costs? Just incase I decide to smash my faring up sometime haha Confused

Thanks anders! I'm feeling alot more optimistic toward the whole thing now & just happy it wasn't a write off Thumbs Up

And yes, Gixxers are my fave too & it breaks my heart to see her damaged. Sorry to hear about your Gix, mattspratt, why doesn't it run?.... wanna sell your fairings? Razz

The £200 didn't include any fairings (that WOULD have been astonishing! Razz ). He said he knew someone who had a R/H fairing for £45, but when I saw it I decided against it. It was alot better but still had a big crack & a little peice missing so I figured no point really as I'll just want to get a new one anyway. All the spare fairings I had were from a previous insurance claim when someone reversed into my bike & knocked it over. I asked to keep the fairings they replaced because there wasn't all that much wrong with them (the L/H fairing had a tiny tiny black speck on the edge of it, but they chose to replace it! Shocked ). I also already had the original clear screen & a slightly damaged rear fairing (more just a scrape on the sticker really). My 'racing hump' (for want of a better word!) is wrecked now though, so I've had to put the rear seat on instead. I *hate* the look of it with a seat too! Sad

Here is a breakdown from the bill:

Chain & Sprocket £80
Front Tyre £25 (not new, but has a good amount of tread)
Oil Filter £9.50
Oil £3

The rest was labour costs & the safety check & service they carried out etc which came to another ~£84.

I was pretty impressed personally as I was expecting to pay alot more! It was kinda lucky I had a spare rear fairing already, so I just need to get a hold of a R/H fairing & a tank & I'm just about set. Trouble is they're pretty hard to come by in yellow & I cant justify buying a full sent of blue/white fairings! Shocked
