Blimey well if it's legit it's a steal... According to the oracle of all things price (Parkers) it should be: Private Good £2,885, Private Poor £2,310. So it's underpriced whatever it is. Shame it's in Kent otherwise I'd be tempted myself.

Sounds OK , I saw a VFR800 '99 15K on the clocks 8 miles from me , for £1995, it was black had a custom zorst AND a stainless system AND a single seat cowl , seems to be the going rate for private lately , remembering of course the VFR800 is less valuable than the 750. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. 22K = valves need to be done in like 2K ? , V2s are a bugger to work on the V4 is a horrible beggar to work on, sure I mean its not the VTEC version (ir $1000 service) but will take utterly ages ,
maybe HE thinks its a VTEC version and a shady mechanic has told him £1000 to service the valves?. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. See, I'd happily take on the valves, I've done one V4 I'm sure I can do another!!! But I did wonder the same thing myself, it's probably because of the up and coming major sevice and he's had some wopping big quotes which have made him wanna get shut.

A mate of mine had terrible regulator/rectifier problems with one of these, he ended up selling it off cheap for a 'quick sale'.

As itchy says, I think that 24k is when the valves need doing.
I've heard that Honda dealers charge £800 for the service. You're probably looking at a good £200 extra for other bits and bobs.
So I think all in all it's a fair price. Not exactly a bargain, though.....
Best thing to do is contact a Honda dealer near you and ask for a quote at the 24k service. ____________________ Kawasaki ER6n -> Honda CBR600RR -> Honda VTR 1000 -> Moto Guzzi Norge 1200

its more like 31cc ,
its bigger fatter and heavier , and according to Gaz they didn't tune the carbs right for the bore increase so it has a few flat spots which were only amended with FI. ____________________ Spain 2008France 2007Big one 2009 We all die. Since you are looking at my bike, this may help....
I've owned 2 (a green 2000 and a silver 2001). Green had 86k miles and was replaced due to an accident. It was as good to ride as my replacement (silever 11k miles 2001).
Service interval is:
minor every 4k miles.
intermediate every 8k.
valves every 16k.
The 4k is only a check (they don't even change the oil unless you ask them to!). I skip it and just do an oil/filter change then.
The 16k only really needs doing if the engine is making a noise. They are hardly ever out of adjustment.
The reg/rect problem is common on quite a few Honda's (and others for that matter). A new reg costs £60 (pattern), which does not suffer as badly as the original. To say its bad is a bit much, I've had one replaced under warantee from Honda (2005). The one in my current bike is fine. My mechanic says that the pattern ones tend to last at least 3 years.
The rest of the bike is well known:
50mpg @ 80mph. In fact I find pretty much 50mpg all the time. About 200miles to a 19litre fuel stop (the tank is 20).
Comfy for long distance. The engines will happily do 150k miles. I have heard of one (in Bike) which did 440k miles on one engine.
Bridgestone 020 tyres suit it well, I get 7-8000 from a rear and 9000 from a front.
They are well balanced and inspire confidence, it certainly has no problems holding a line in a corner, even with an uneven/rough surface.
They are a fairly tall, and heavy bike. Make sure you will be comfortable with the weight.
My silver one was purchased Aug last year, mint condition 2001 (HISS) with 11k miles, bar risers, Corbin seat, and Givi wingrack (panniers and top box inc) for £2800. I would def. recommend a hugger if it doesn't have one already.
It took me to Morocco and back, handled unpaved roads and fords. Certainly your original all-rounder.
All the best. ____________________ Travelling around the world...a bit at a time. Where am I now? / Visit my BLOG
