Hello all. I was fiddling around with the bike yesterday and after much struggling, I managed to get the fuel tap to turn to all three points, so now it turns freely. However, upon closer inspection, I have noticed that when it points to the up position, it says 'RES', which I assume is reserve, when it points to the right position, it says 'PRI' - perhaps primary? And when it points down, it says 'ON'. On my YBR, it says RES pointing to the top, OFF in the middle and ON at the bottom - easy, you know what they all mean, but not too sure about the Bandit, any ideas?

So when I'm out and about, it should be 'ON', when I run out whilst out and about 'RES', and when I get home 'PRI'?

Pri, is for when you first start your bike, it should only be used for a minute or to well the bike warms up, as soon as you want to set of you should switch it to On.

Have a look at this diagram , between the 3 positions there should be an off, it won't be wrote on it but there should be no fuel coming out when you put it to the position in the picture.

Res and On are off when the engine is not turning as they work by a
vacuum from the intake to the engine.
I would only use prime if the carbs were empty for any reason.

Paddy.

As others have said, for normal day to day riding the tap should be in the 'ON' position. If you get low on fuel then turn the tap to 'RES' (reserve) and it'll allow you to use the remainder in the bottom of the tank (~30 miles max.)

PRI is prime. I've only used this once after draining the carb floats. Basically it allows fuel to pour out of the tank petrol hoses and begin filling the carbs without the engine running.

If you ever have to take the tank off the bike, make sure the tap is in the 'ON' position. This way the fuel stays in the tank and doesn't pour out all over you and the garage floor Embarassed

I only ever used the Prime once and that was when I had dismantled the carbs from the airbox and fuel tank to take my restrictors out. The bike was not starting at all, so I left it on Prime for 20 seconds and it started well.

I would not leave it on Prime whilst the engine is on. If you need additional fuel when starting normally, just use the choke. Thumbs Up
