Can anybody tell me if the mounting pin for the pads on the front calipers for a Bandit is threaded or does it just slide out. Mine is seized and I would like to know so that I can decide to bang it out by some method or do I have to turn it to extract it. The fiches don't seem to allude to the presence of a thread, but I thought it worth while checking first. The Bandit is a 600 K3 with Tokico calipers.

Yes, thats the one I mean. It does just look like it slides out doesn't it, but it has a 5mm hex head which made me wonder about a thread. I guess thats just for freeing it up in the first place only it doesn't seem to have worked in my case. Thanks.

Yep they are just a sliding fit ... take them out and clean up (if required) using some wet'n'dry ... regrease and reassemble.

You may also find that the hole that the rubber boot (7) sits in, into which the pin slides, has corrosion in in which is compressing the rubber boot and hence gripping the pin ... take the rubber boot out and clean the hole, grease it and boot slightly and then reassemble.

Check out your pistons as well ... the groove for the dust seal has a habit of corroding and forcing the seal out against the piston making it stick ... you'll need to remove the pistons and dust seal and carefully remove all of the corrosion before reassembling.

Hope you get it sorted ... Barry

The pads are held in with a threaded pin ..the 5mm allen key that youre talking about. It unscrews about 8 to 10 mm out of the caliper and may the need a slight tapping to get the pin out of the brake pads..dont knacker the threading in the caliper as its a 10mm x 1.0 thread and a thread chaser of that pitch isnt common. When you put the pads and the pin back in,put a thin smear of copper grease on the shaft of the pin and the thraeded portion. The pin is held tight in the caliper with a small grub screw with a slotted head which normally chews up,so is never fitted back in.ok??Tim Thumbs Up

The B12 pads are held in by a threaded allen headed bolt but I don't think the B6 are (see fig 11/12)!!

Anyway whatever, you'll soon work it out ... hope you get it sorted easily Thumbs Up

All the best ... Barry
