Keep getting a clunk noise when the forks decompress after braking hard, l,ve checked the wheel and headstock bearings and changed the fork oil plus theres no lose bolts (including the top yoke nut).

Any ideas?

for a lot of forks this is normal, to be sure just check the rod operation and that the internals have been built up correctly

Are you sure its not the calipers or brake pads moving on their mounts?

There should not be any clunks.

Tell that to the x000's of early sv650 owners with standard front suspension. Neutral

There should be no clunking. If it was right they wouldn't have had to change it.

So you should. Maybe if you looked at these bikes that clunk you would learn what the problem is and that it isn't always the forks that are clunking.

There should be no back and forth movement to cause clunks and no bottoming out to cause clunks. If there is theres something wrong.

Just to add to the list it could also be the disks moving on their buttons/bobbins if they are the floating types.

Lol yeah ok!

Tatters, check for play in the forks themselves to see whether or not the bushes have worn past their service limits. Also check the internals to see if the previous owner has maybe built the forks up wrong. Try to narrow the noise down to see if its one fork leg. If it is chances are it needs investigating, if its both, chances are its normal. Some forks clunk, some dont.
