What does it mean when the alternator plug has melted on the engine, not the regulator (that's fine)?

Do i need a new alternator? or just the plug, any help will be great, cheers.

i would have thought that the plug cap has melted to your engine, in which case, get a stanly blade and a lighter and heat the blade and cut the melted crap away,(get rid of all of it before you remove the spark plug just to make sure its not nakered)
then buy and replace the plug cap

I think Cog Head has somewhat misread your post, he's referring to spark plugs and plug caps, not alternator plugs.

If the alternator wiring plug has melted then it means that the regulator is probably on it's way out and isn't correcting the voltage properly and is overheating therefore melting the plug, it's the usual initial symptom. That and if you headlights dim when you rev the bike rather than go brighter, or you get a misfire at high rpm.

You are probably due a New regulator as has been said. Common fault on CBRs/VFRs etc.
