So i was on a rideout.....

So anyway, met up with an old school friends who's on a ER5 hire bike and another guy on a KTM (which was nice) and met them at lewes.

So we start to ride and get to some country lanes and start with the overtakes. I'm leading and taking it easy as never rode with these guys before but both seem experienced so start to get more relaxed.

We get to a nice wide straight and there's 4 cars all going slowly. I decide i'm going to take them all as nice and clear so open her up and go for it. After about the second car there's a bang and the engine revs freely with no power . Luckily i was in a gap of cars and there was lay-by. i knew what that meant....

I brought it on myself really. I adjusted it the week earlier and was on the tight side but thought nothing of it as done it many times before and been tighter than that are just sorted itself out. Oh well, thats the price for conplanecy

My friend does motocross and as a car with a trailer and we weren't that far from his house and so went back and brought it back to mine.

When the chain went i remember seeing the rev counter and only went up to about 9-10k so think the engine is fine. I held it at certain rpm and was fine.

Oh well, was a really nice night for a rideout as well!!

Unlcuky matey, but at least it came off cleanly and didnt wrap itself round one of the sprockets.

Yea it sucks but tomorrow i was going to visit Chris-red on here in essex so least it didnt go then. Also, i reckon it will be about £200-250 to get back to how it was which isnt too bad.

At least it was stoped by the fairing! Good luck getting it sorted, ebaying the parts will probably be the best bet. Don't worry about the engine going to 10k I had mine at 15k once

like has been said - could of been a hell of a lot worse.

My chain snapped on my husqvarna 500 crosser - it wrapped round and locked up the bike - resulting in cuts / bruises and 3 broken ribs!

And the bikes nice - was looking at one before buying my ZX10R - just cant get rid of the supersport bike bug though!

So, spent a few hours getting it ready for new parts. Unfortantly don't have access to a garage but since its summer this isn't a problem.

The wheel off and gave it a little clean. The hugger just wouldnt come off, which is annoying. This is probably due to 4 years of road grime

Took a look at the front sprocket and the washer is bend, so ordered on of those and the panel for £114

getting a chain guard on some guy on ebay who when i ask postage said £10!!! When i told him the other week i spent a exhaust for £4 he said he would get a more accurate quote tomorrow

Front sprocket cover was fairly scratched inside but that hardly surprising i guess, works fine for its purpose

are you talking about that bent bit folding over the nut as a washer?

If so its supposed to be like that, your supposed to hammer over the washer after doing up the front sprocket as there are lots of forces going through it, it needs that extra bit of securing.

Andy, you really should replace both the sprockets too, otherwise you'll not get the best from a new chain.

That washer has been punched over with a screwdriver, for safety. I believe some R6 ones came adrift, and it has to be an issue on any bike configured that way. Get a new washer with the sprockets and do it likewise.
