Due to the inspection on this years recent donny moto gp race, apparently there will be no further donny races, as crowd decided to intrude the track and disturb riders and ignore officials. Doh!

Is this true, these frantic donny crowd charges at the end of the race are to blame! Crying or Very sad

They mentioned it after the race, didn't think it would actually happen though Sad . They do it at so many other races across the world though.. don't see them getting dropped off the race list!

Oh well, nothing we can do. I'm glad I was there for the last British MotoGP race. And for the record, I didn't go onto the track (kind of wish I had if this was going to happen anyway).

yeah tis a big shock and kick up the arse.

TBH, I think obviously thats the main reason why theyre "not" having it again, but also you cant exactly cope with the sheer amount of traffic ques there were in and out lol, you'd have thought with such a popular and successful venue, they would have sorted that one out!

We can only hope lol, was lookin forward to a ride up there when i get the 600

Why??? Track invasions happen all the bloody time at the other races (ahem......mugello Rolling Eyes ), yet the one time we have one in England and the meeting is canned.

Anyone else getting pissed off with this country?

Where'd you hear this?

And yeah, happens all the time at Mugello but they wont can that because it's Rossis territory, then again Donnington he classes as his 2nd home race..

I reckon they're getting out quick to avoid having to put a number plate on Rossis M1...(although apparently that idea has been dropped) Rolling Eyes

Where did you hear that its been cancelled for 2008.
As far as I know there was just going to be a security review.

It wasn't just the track invasion. Although I don't think it helped.
Rossi's motorhome was graffitied and his scooter was kicked over.
Another scooter was also stolen from the paddock over the weekend and found near East-Midlands Airport.

It's down to your different type of people going to watch the racing now imo.

I've been working at the Donington MotoGP for the last 4 years and watched it get steadily worse year on year. It's now as much a fashion statemet as it is about the race, and it hacks me off.

Anyone with a true love for the sport and an understanding of how it works would understand why invading the track after a race isn't a good idea, but the mentality of the people who are going these days just doesn't work like that, they think it's a bloody football match or something! Evil or Very Mad

Case in point: we are there from Thursday til pretty late Sunday and the stall is open all the time the public are in so we don't get much in the way of time off to go and see much of the actual racing. It's always been tradition though that for the GP itself we sheet the stall over and go out to watch, maybe 1 person stays inside or we come to an agreement with a neighbour to keep an eye out etc. This year we didn't get chance because about 2 minutes before the race started we had a group of 6 people came in and started browsing. Full Rossi kits, tshits, hats, umbrellas, the whole deal, 4 women 2 men. We are doing our best "can I help you" thing (ie disguised fuck off out of here we want to close and go watch the race signals) but no deal. At one point the boss actually said "the race has started, don't you want to watch it?" to which they all just shrugged. Yeah we are happy to sell you a tshirt from our range but FFS this is the only time all weekend we get to see some racing action, they just didn't give a toss. Rolling Eyes They weren't there for love of the sport, they were there because it was "the" place to be. We were open for at least 27 hours over the course of the weekend but the only time they wanted to go shopping was when the main race was on. Grrrr.

At mugello the last race of the day is the main GP race, at the uk it isn't, yet everyone thinks it's a good idea to run onto the track, cover it in mud and delay the next race. Rolling Eyes

Fact is in the uk we do have to deal with more and more health and safety regulations and when people are running on the track they are causing danger for themselves and the riders, it's obvious this will have a negative effect.

As Jo said, a lot of the uk crowd are not fans of the sport, you can tell this by the disproportinate amount of Rossi fans compared to the new kids or the under dogs who have plenty of fans in other countries.

More likely that big, wide, 'safe' circuit near Northampton... Wink

Moto GP round brands would be sweet.

I doubt they will be moving it though.

If it was really the issue of fans leaving rubbish on the track for the next race I can't see them losing the MotoGP round just for the sake of a golden oldies vintage race afterward that they could easily reschedule earlier. Fact is Mugello get away with it and we don't.

I don't rate Donnington as a great spectator circuit anyway though, so bring on Brands GP Thumbs Up

I can't see any info anywhere that says it has been cancelled, so I very much doubt it has been.

A Brands GP would be fantastic.

any views on the MotoGP going to Silverstone?
I was at my first MotoGP race at donny this year, it was great even tho it pissed down Sad shame donny is losing the race because of a few imbeciles.
I was at the old hairpin and seen the track invasion, a few of the riders were still at full chat when the crowd were on the track, i'm sure i seen some "fans" trying to mug Rossi of his knee sliders Rolling Eyes

I don't find silverstone a very inspiring track. All flat. Just my opinion.

I'd love to see it move to Brands Hatch, purely because its a dam site closer to where I live. Plus in my opinion I think it is a much better track. Smile

Maurice - did you go to MotoGP?

The following races were the 125 GP, KTM 990 Super Dukes and the Yamaha R6 cup - neither which could even be remotely called "golden oldies vintage" racing. Confused

The other problem is that they are governed by the TV schedule to get coverage in mainland europe.

I can't honestly see MotoGP moving from Donington. The run off areas at Brands are nowhere near big enough for the FIM to approve it for the MotoGP bikes (would be cool to see them all barrelling through Paddock Hill bend though Thumbs Up )

If it moves I think it would be more to do with the track surface being like glass when it rains rather than the croud invasion. Handy for me as it was only 60 miles up the road.

you know the solution then dont you, put up a great big mesh fence so they cant get over. Still see through it but you wont be able to get through it. Theyll never cancell it, theyde lose a hell of a lot of money if they did.

Haven't been for a couple years. The last time I stayed after the main GP500/MotoGP race old racers were racing old 500's. Getting stuck in a carpark for three hours (with three sixteen year olds left to direct thousands of cars) kind of puts you off staying later in future, even on a bike.
