Non-working horn

Hi,

For a while now my horn has not been working. I took a few photos and had a 5 min check over and although ~50% of the wiring is not visible the parts i can see all look fine and looks like its all connected.

Furthermore, when i press the button a small sound is emitted (not a horn like noise, its like a knock) which i believe means that the horn unit itself is faulty and not the wiring.

Im thinking of upgrading to a louder horn but scared that being a naked bike it will effect its looks. The one im thinking of was posted up in Bike Chat a few days ago and is quite compact and louder then OE is.

The connection for the OE horn is a unlike that of the horn im thinking of buying.

Please can someone advise me whether
Based on the information, it is the horn unit?
What i will have to do to the connection to get it working.
Will it look ok on the bike or just out of place (going to get a black one if possible)

Try getting someone to press the button and give the horn a whack with a hammer - seriously!

Often works on a car horn which has seized up internally, it may not work as yours is making an 'attempt' to sound

Looking at the pics, will i have problems with clearence if i dont relocate the horn? Someone on VFR forum had this problem HERE

i would say the horn itself is knackered..the knocking is probably down to the horn energising,but the diaphragm inside not moving..Durite horns...cost about a fiver.to test the horn unbolt it,make up a length of 2 wires,connect then to the poles on the back of the horn and connect it across the battery..that should rule out the switch,wiring and connections and ensure the horn itself is broken.tim

Horns fooked, get a new one but not the that Magnum, its good but the Nautilus is MUCH better.

I've used Fiam dual tone horns and they are MEEEGGGGAAAA

BTW; they don't seem to have it now but older electro magnetic horns used to have an adjuster screw and locknut on the back, might be worth a look.

there should be an adjusting screw at the back of the horn.

another vote for having a look for the screw. If it's there and it does nothing sounds like the horn is fucked.

You could try adding two normal horns and run them in parallel
