I'm glad the government said that.

An extra bit in the test about biker awareness won't stop people pulling out and knocking someone off, nor will it stop people spinning off into hedges.

About time the majority of bikers got their heads out of the sand and realised the only way not to get knocked off is to ride defensively and assume everyone is out to get you.

I do and they still are. Problem with that is biking is an individual experience, not to beturned into IAM/RoSPA robots. Not that I'm knocking that style of riding, it works, time and place and all that (e.g. wheelies down a 30 zone isn't).

On topic the response appears to be the usual government/whitehall fudge of delaying a decision (because it might be the wrong one) and having a review. If anyone has seen the 'Yes Minister' or 'Yes Prime Minister' series they'll know exactly what I mean.

IMO it's a shame they can't or daren't think outside the box. For years I've thought it'd be a good idea to include something like the CBT into the car test. Let a new driver out on the road on a 50cc scooter and feel the effect other car drivers have.

Ok, back to my medication now Very Happy

One sessions on a moped and you think new car drivers will suddenly think "Oh, must look out for bikes!"

On my CBT which the first time I had ver been on the roads, I didn't have a near miss at all, so i'm pretty sure it would make naff all difference.

Missing the point. It's not about having a near death experience. It's about experiencing things from someone else's viewpoint and thus having an appreciation and understanding.

Yeah and i'm saying it would make no difference whatsoever, nil, zilch, zip.

But hey, i'm wasting my time trying to get through bikers delusions.

I disagree.

If you look at countries where there is a much greater use of mopeds at a younger age (italy and France for example) there is a much greater awareness of motorcycles by car drivers. I can only assume this is down to their experiences of riding 'peds from the age of 14 to 16/18 when they could start driving a car.

Missing the point!!!!

I'm saying 1 session on a 2 wheeled motorcycle will not do anything, sustained long term experience will, but that is impractical. Jesus. Rolling Eyes

even a short blast on a 'ped is better tha noting..

if it helps one driver to see sense, then is it not worthwhile?

There will be no single training technique nor methodology that will teach every driver how to spot bikes, so why discount what few we have?

by your rationale, we could argue that the driving test as it stands doesn't stop people speeding, so let's not bother doing that either.

Imagine the outcry if someone crashed a ped or similar and seriously hurt them-self while on such a scheme.

Also, why limit it to just motorbikes?
Push bikes are pretty vulnerable to. Suspect horse riders would also be annoyed the bikes got special treatment - so everyone should also be made to ride a horse for an hour or two on the road before they can ride their motorbikes. Bet that'd be an eye opener to the people that take pride in scaring horses.

Remember we live in a democracy. That DOES NOT mean you choose which policies the government implements; that means that you choose the government you believe will do the best in implementing your views; a big difference.

I'm sure the money could be spent much better.
For instance a general 'advanced driving' course to be taken when people have certain amount of experience, etc.
