Hi,

The drain pipe from the rim around the filler on the petrol tank on my curvy SV650 has snapped off.

Is this repairable or is it time for a new tank? Could I bodge it with silicone sealant or something? I'm pretty skint at the moment.

This is getting close to being the final straw with this bike, I think it's cursed. Evil or Very Mad

There are two bashed-in but still fuel / watertight tanks in the back garden if you need a quick solution. Sure Luke wouldn't mind you borrowing one.

Petseal or leak fix are epoxy fillers (available from car places) that will do the job. most of the plastic metal type 2 part mixes will work as well. I once fixed a tank that gave up at a rally with plastic metal and repair mesh, it lasted fine for at least 2 years afterwards at which point the rest of the bike gave up.

You need to sand all the paint off around the repair area and wipe it down with meths to degrease it, as petrol has atendency to creep you may well need to do it a couple of times. Put on a couple of thin layers rather than one big glob. warming things up with a hairdryer or a hot air paintstripper help as well.
