Bah, just been out on the NSR and it's died on my 10 mins into the ride.
Going down the road, hit the brakes to slow down for the granny infront (was doing ~70), and a couple of mins later the bikes spluttering and struggling. I pulled over, and she's died.
I managed to start her up again, try and ride home. It's ok for 2 mins and then it splutters and dies again. Pull over, try again. Eventually starts (with some difficulty this time) and make it home.

Any ideas? It's certainly not petrol, thats the first thing I checked.

Hope its nothing major because I just shelled out £280 to get it through the MOT and I'm all out of cash. But my gut feeling is that i've killed it this time.

Rolling Eyes

In short - Bike dies. Will start again with choke but not without. Dies again. Petrol not empty.

Shouldn't be empty, unless the warning light has broke. To be honest I wouldn't be suprised if thats the case though, my first though was its out of oil.

Checking now as we speak, cheers.

Hmm, there is certainly some oil left that I can see, not tonnes but it should be enough to be honest.

What mileage has it done and when did it last have a rebuild?

A jot under 6000, I can only assume no rebuild.

Also, it's still restricted, if thats of any use. So it's not really been abused (by me at least).

Shouldnt need one yet, I'd take the exhaust off and take a quick look at the piston if you can.

I'll see if I can get someone who knows what they are doing to have a look at it, check the pistons ect.

Just tried it again and it's started fine, although I don't wanna give it a blast to test it incase I cause more damage.

Don't suppose it could have overheated or something? The gauge was telling me temp was normal, and I wasn't out for long however.

as always give a good cleaning at tank (tap) , carb & air foam filter , then fit a new plug (BR9EIX because BR9ECS are bull shit) set needle on the 2nd notch from top , pilot screw at 2 1/2 turns out , idle at 1500 rpm

i know this may seem a really obvious but may be worth double checking that your not running on the reserve tank

ive done this numerous times, Embarassed especialy after refueling and forgeting to switch back to main

and you sure its warmed up enougth? and not running on the choke?

i know they seem silly things but are easily forgoten about.

Check the fuel line hasnt kinked around or under the air box causing fuel starvation.

Happened to me and would cut out at high speed, wait a few mo's and it starts again only to repeat when travelling at speed again.

Thanks for all the suggestions guys, seems like I've got some exploring to do to get to the root of this.

I certainly wasn't running on choke, after petrol, thats the next thing I checked.
