I want to set my PC up in my room, the one downstairs is my dads, its on broadband *(virgin)

Is it just a case of installing the Vrigin CD and once it's connected just put in the user name and password?

Thanks Thumbs Up

Are you on a network cabled wifi? Is the internet broadband a adsl router (i assume so)? What you want to do is make the router alwasy be on and then simply connect to the router either via wifi or cable for direct acess so your dads computer does not have to be on.

That was about the hardware needed for connections.
This is the software question, and would i need to install the Virgin software on the other machine.

No, I wouldn't have thought so because you will not be connecting to the internet directly.

I have actually just done this myself,

If you have a cable connection (white virgin box about the size of a dvd case)

https://www.amazon.co.uk/D-Link-DIR-635-Wireless-broadband-filtering/dp/B000FH2W22

It's £69.99 in PC world atm

and it pretty much sets it's self up.

If it's not cable (DSL) you will need a dsl router, if you get a basic one it should also set it's self up.

You do not need to setup the software as long as you are connecting directly to the router.
