Time for a new bike.
Im not sure what to go for, A supermoto style bike like the DRZ400 is quite appealing. But how practical would one be for day to day use as apposed to my NC29.

What would a DZR400 sit at on the motorway comfortably?
Comfort, How would a long journey feel on one at the side of somthing like my NC29?

Forgive my stupidity, The only off road bike ive had was a Honda XL125. Not alot to go by really.

Not the comfiest bikes for motorways due to total lack of wind protection. Fuel tanks tend to be on the small side as well, but they give you a regular bum rest when you need to fill up. But they are fun around towns and great at filtering due to being skinny bikes.

I was thinking about supermoto before i got my zx10r, as said above the fuel tanks are small, not comfy, vibrate a lot, i would get one as a second bike or somthing for more on road like the 950 or the super duke. Ive only had a shot of a husky and i did like it but could not see myself doing many miles on it.

In total agreement Thumbs Up

The seat on my CCM is only good for 30 miles at a time Sad

Any more than that would require surgery to remove it from your ass Crying or Very sad

If you're doing decent distance then any half decent supermotoish bike probably won't be great (though I used to do ok on my klr650, but that's heavier and more comfy).
My latest acquisition is quite good for trips around town etc, but wouldn't to do much more than that on it regularly.

I was looking at the DR-SM recently, but ended up going with a CCM 404e - it's got the faster DRZ400e engne (about 5hp, up to 37hp) and better suspension as well as a bit cheaper with enduro wheels too.

Good for around 100 I reckon if you keep it pinned.
It'll sit at 80 ok if you can take the wind blast, but as mentioned the seat'll leave you hurting after any decent time (I'll see after box hill at the weekend*).

The DR-SM isn't quite as fast being heavier and lower powered. General opinion seems to be that the E model engine is just as reliable as the S (and SM) version.

get something like a xr650, fmx or a xt660,
they will quite happily do motorway miles, arn't too highly strung, but are still a little uncomfy being so thin Very Happy
mabee a superterene or a africatwin might be the way to go Thumbs Up

Just a note that the XR650 comes in R and L versions. The R version is listed at 125kg or so I think while the more road biased L version is listed at 147kg.

Then 155kg and 166kg or so for the FMX and XT respectively. Once you're getting to Africa twin territory, we're talking super-lardy.

The XT engine isn't supposed to be too bad and I'm sure you can have fun on any of them; while they might be fine for day to day, I'm not sure there'd be many 'advantages' going to them from a NC29 (getting the impression binge may be more interested in the 'super' side of the moto Smile ).
