Hi all,
I got myself a 06 ZX6-R Ninja on Saturday (For background it's only done 1800 miles and is spotless).
Anyway after a 50 or so mile ride last night (took the long way home) I was in the garage oiling the chain and generally admiring my new toy when the bike started to emit a rather loud whistle/high pitch hum (After years of watching Hollywood movies my first instinct was the bike was going to explode... a second later I went in search of where it was coming from.)
The noise was coming from the tank filler cap. I pushed the key cover flap down and the pitch changed. When I flicked the key cover up the sound stopped. I popped the fuel cap and it hissed as it opened. So it seems like there is a build up of negative pressure and I guess it's related to the tank breather hole?
Is it anything to be concerned about? The bike has not suffered fuelling issues during the 380 miles I've done over the past 3 days, but the noise didn't seem normal. Anyone got any advice?
