My MC31's headlight is terrible, it even looks dim when you look at it from the front, is this a usual problem with these, or is it just a crap bulb?

If it is a usual problem, what's my best best to improve the light without breaking the bank?

Cheers!

The light on my super four is about the same brightness as a car light. Very good for dark roads.

It could either be your bulb or the battery?

i'd say wrong bulb, too high wattage, or like djrichie said, could be your charging system, but more than likely its just the bulb.

Is it dim all the time?

or only when the engine is not running or idling?

Dose it get brighter when you rev the bike?

It's dim all the time and does not get brighter if I rev it, it does dim even more if I apply the brake (presumably as the rear brake light is also drawing power)

The battery is possibly low, as it was flat last month and I had to bump start it, but I have been riding around a fair bit with the light on dipped beam to try and keep it charged.

Sounds like you have two problems
1, battery is shaged
2, you could have a possible alternator / dynamo fault

If you disconnect the battery dose the bike still run if not it your charging system
