I have leaky fork seals on my 75' Honda CB750

I know the seals need changed, but I want to try to put it off till winter. I don't know much about working on bikes. How do I top the fluid off, and what kind of fluid do I use?

Seals will just get worse and may spill oil on your brakes / tyres, which is iffy.

You generally loosen the top yolk, then unscrew the fork cap.

You get specific fork oil which comes in different weights. You will have to find the correct weight for your bike.

there is no way to tell how much oil is in them. the only way is to drain them totally. and put the correct measurment in each one. if you put to much in they will be solid. ie no travel. your best bet is to leave it until you can put new seals in. or if nyou dont mind waisting your money drain both forks and top them up.

Providing they are the same each side, you can compare sides using a dipstick. Some bikes specify that fork oil should be filled to a certain distance below the top of the fork, with the fork fully extended I believe.

Though, as you say, too much will mean losing travel.

TBH its only going to take a couple of hours to change the seals, assuming it goes well Laughing . If you don't want to do it by the book then take a look at this.

Halfords sell fork oil in the motorbike section. Nothing special but about average price.

At worst pull up the dust covers and put some kitchen towel in there to try and stop the oil leaking down the fork leg.

Back to the topic,i use a syringe..get them from most chemists...get a few odd looks from oaps!!,then measure the oil level with a cable tie dipped down the tube and compare left to right tube oil levels.
