Sure you had the oxford ones then Question. They come with a dial so it's possible to adjust the temperature. Sounds like you had some cheap heated grips fitted which only had on or off.

The latest Hot Grips comes with a new style button control panel and is what I have fitted to my bike. Summer gloves don't provide enough insulation and you will find them a tad hot to hold when set to level 4 . I find setting 2 or 3 works just right. Personally I prefer to wear winter gloves and set it to max. It soon warms up the padding inside the gloves and your hands are warm as anything, including the thumbs which are usually sticking down in the breeze.

Mine are Oxford hot grips, the ones you can take on and off easily but don't have a dial. They only have on/off and don't get very warm sometimes... Confused

I have exactly those and mine gave me burn blisters on a 200 mile trip! i swear they get hotter the faster you go as well, its as if the extra charge that the battery is getting is going straight to the grips.

Wanna swap? Mine seem to be terrible. Sometimes they'll get really warm and keep my hands warm but like today, they don't do much. Had to stay on the bike after I parked up for 3 minutes to warm my hands after tkaing my gloves off Confused

I've got the new hotgrips and they work really well. Think the other ones might be called hot hands?

Yeah I've got the same ones as extreme3d (above). Apart from the 60% light not working (which I will take back in a few days time to get the switch box changed), they're not bad. Normally the first or third heating setting is good.
Due tend to find though that they warm more the palm of the hand than the fingers. Having said that they're not bad for the price I suppose (paid about £30 for mine) compared with a few factory fitted optional extra ones which can cost £140.

What are they like with draining the battery? Do they drain it at all? or that just a myth.

As long as you don't leave them on while the bike isn't started you'll be fine, soon as the engine is running it should be fine.

As standard they will connect right upto the battery so it is possible to switch them on without the ignition on thus draining the battery, you can connect it to a relay or somewhere that has a live feed after the ignition and it wont turn on unless the ignition is on.

The new oxford grips are supposed to have a sensor in the switch box and will automatically switch off if the battery level gets low. Its says that there should be enough power to start the bike but I haven't tried it.

I have oxford wrap arounds, okay on their own, dont keep hands warm in these temperatures,

I added a pair of bar muffs,

rarely have the grip son now, the protection from the wind blast helps alot, not to mention keeps the road crap and moisture off my summer gloves.

Monday at 6am for the 80mile trip to uni I had both grips and muffs and my hands were cold...

get some and find out, good grips are £15-20 from a bike show

or tech 7 (via mps) were doing a buy hot grips and muffs for £30

MY R&G heated grips were better imo than oxford, better priced too, daytona seem to be the best with a dial.

I don't turn mine on until I'm rolling, GPZ battery fails to start the bike if it's been sat in the cold for a day or so, the hot grips dont seem to make a difference, though obviously if you leave them on without the engine running they will drain the battery.

I think the battery in the GPZ is origional... certainly looks like it's from '98 Confused

mine get uber painful hot after I've gone up the revs and the needle is slowly coming down.

Happens every time, so If I get colder I know what to do.

i got a set of wraparound (take um off easy) oxford hotgrips! no setting just ON!

they get frigging hot VERY quickly!!!!! and that saying something comming from me, as i got asbestos hand from being a chef!

i expect the 2006 versions against the 2007 versions are really NOT any different! it all depends on how well charged your battery is at the end of the day!!! well it does on my bike!!!!

Got them fitted as standard to my BMW and they have 3 heat settings, Off, Nice and warm and Core of the Sun! I wear summer gloves all year round as they are so good. Wouldn't be without them now. Thumbs Up

Hi, can vouch for this working, did it on the SV though took over an hour before they switched off, though this would probably vary a bit bike to bike, so I'd say the power consumption is low.
