the clutch on my bike dont seem to be working right
when clutch lever is pulled and first gear is engaged it feels as though the clutch has not disengaged
wot i mean is the bike still feels as though its in gear even with the clutch lever pulled in
ive tried to adjust it at the lever end and also the other end
would it help if the transmission oil is changed or does it not affect the clutch

when the engine is off and you put it in first it feels as if the clutch aint doing a thing
when the engine is running pull the clutch in and put it in first it stalls
does that make any sense

well i was gunna tell you how but we should run through the basic stuff before we start stripping it down. how long was it stood for? have you got a manual for the bike? there should be about 2-5mm freeplay measured from the ball on the lever. have you got a few pics of the clutch area?

well i guess if its been stood for a long time and not been used for a long time, then the plates could be stuck together, is the first time you've tried to use it or have you been using it previously?

well, if you drain all the transmission fliud out and remove the clutch casing you can undo the clutch basket and take out all the plates and give them a good look at to see if they are worn or warped, or if the pressure plates are warped or under limit, if there ok put em back in with fresh fluid, if nor replace them with some new plates EBC brakes do good replacement sets a a very good price. or if you want the quick route then drain the trans fluid and tie the clutch lever to the bar and leave overnite, then check it the next day with some fresh fluid. any questions? Thumbs Up

you can try to get it working . warm your bike until the temperature needle comes out the blue zone . apply full front break , apply acceleration 5000 rpm , press down your clutch handle then engage firsyt gear , after 1,2 or 3 times your clutch will get unstock . if not , you may dismount it

well i tried it alains way over the weekend and it went into first without stalling
let the lever out about half way and you could feel it biting
but still cant get first smoothly
so i think im going to renew the clutch
so if im ging to strip it i may aswell put a new 1 in
exactley what parts should i be changing
is it 5 or 6 friction plates needed and what else
or is there somewhere i could buy a complete clutch kit from?

um, well it depends on whats wrong with the clutch as a whole, the pressure plates might need renewing etc, i would take it apart have a see at the pressure plates to see what condition there in.
but apart from that, you can buy good parts from https://www.ebcbrakesdirect.com/bike/default.asp they sell friction plates, and springs, not sure on the pressure plates though, i would take a look at the pressure plates and if seem nice and unwarped and not worn down, i'd give em a good ruffing up with some emeroy cloth. Thumbs Up

discolouration would suggest slipping, could you see the grooves in the friction material? and where the pressure plates nice and flat?
you take a look at the kit on EBC?

took the clutch to my local bike place today and he reckons the clutch should be fine with some new oil
thought it may have been dragging(whatever that means)
the plates are within the limits of the manual specs
and the pressure plates dont seem to be warped either
so im going to refit the clutch with new oil

whats the best oil to use in the transmission??
and i need a new gasket also is this a main dealer item?

instant gasket costs the same but you can use it everywhere like i have, sump starter clutch and my clutch is sealed with instant gasket not dealer gaskets. if you wanna use original then it will have to be a dealer part.
