I'd never ridden a motorbike in my life when I bought my first one (A Suzuki TS125 trail bike), and I made it from Crawley to Horley in one piece. It's not rocket science to pootle along at 30mph while you get the hang of it.

God even if he can ride a bike, did he have a licence for it?

Can you imagine if it got flashed when he was on it and the letter or what have ya came to your door.

Even if it was signed to say you had sold it would you be done for letting him go off on it without a licence?

I have had similar issues trying to sell my bike, gave up in the end. People saying they will come and view it, agree a day and then they dont turn up and you have just wasted a whole day.

To be honest, since the buyer had told you he wasn't proficient in riding a bike on the road and that he intended to do so after buying it, it wouln't be hard to imagine how you might be somehow held at least partially liable should he happen to stuff it on the way home. Stranger things have happened.

I think you did the right thing.
