so after trying to sell my bike for ages, i put this advert up on www.preloved.com, waited a while, and had a bit of intrest.
heres the advert:

Quote:
GSXR 400 - £xxx ono
GSXR400 GK71b, original 1984 first edition GSXR, streetfightered, 11 months tax and MOT, renthals, YZF grips, turns a lot of heads, only downfall is the engine... slight oil leak, and a blowing exhaust. a really worthwhile bike, extremely rare, chances are you've never seen one on the road.

so i get a reply saying

''Message: NICE BIKE I'LLGIVE YOU £xxx CASH FOR IT.''

ideal! i thought, someone to buy it... but it gets better...

i said this...

''ok, yours for £xxxx, when is the best time to pick it up for you? and where are you coming from?
cheers,
matt''

he said...

''I have not got a helmet at the moment as this bike will be a late birthday present for my brother, for when he comes out of prison. So are you be able to bring this down to Roehampton. And before any of our time is wasted, does this baby run smoothly and start first time.''

hmm, i think, whats going to happen here? i hope he picks it up in a van...
but no...

Quote:
Mate, its a deal I'll be able to get a a helmet from some one I know they've also got a massive head like me and I can pick the bike up from you early afternoon this thursday. But I,ve got to let you know I,ve driven cars vans & trucks all my life, my brothers the bikerman.so if you could just breithly run through with me the operations of the bike when I meet you that would be great.as all I know is the basics,I'll be coming all the way from roehampton so if I could have the imformation of where to meet you and also your mobile that would be great easy:)

so i said... FUCKING LOL! i was tempted to sell it to him, as he would most certainly crash in an amusing way and get on the news, but then i thought about the people he may kill... arent i thoughtful.

i declined a sale on my 400 :'(

Its amazing the amount of people who think that because they have ridden a push bike that a motorbike will be easy.

I'd never ridden a motorbike in my life when I bought my first one (A Suzuki TS125 trail bike), and I made it from Crawley to Horley in one piece. It's not rocket science to pootle along at 30mph while you get the hang of it. Laughing

Surprised it made it considering it was from Crawley? Did it have both wheels?

(I grew up in a town 15 minutes from there, and my brother lives there)

I lived and worked in Crawley in the late seventies, and it was an abysmal sh1thole then. I have no idea what it's like nowadays.

God even if he can ride a bike, did he have a licence for it?

Can you imagine if it got flashed when he was on it and the letter or what have ya came to your door. Thumbs Down

Even if it was signed to say you had sold it would you be done for letting him go off on it without a licence?

There is no obligation as a seller to verify a buyers licence.

I have had similar issues trying to sell my bike, gave up in the end. People saying they will come and view it, agree a day and then they dont turn up and you have just wasted a whole day. Evil or Very Mad

To be honest, since the buyer had told you he wasn't proficient in riding a bike on the road and that he intended to do so after buying it, it wouln't be hard to imagine how you might be somehow held at least partially liable should he happen to stuff it on the way home. Stranger things have happened.

I think you did the right thing.

Not as of yesterday. After six days the money is yours, if the banks haven't figured out it's forged or bouncy in that time it's their problem.

TS125s are built bomb proof. With careful maintenance they will last and be abused for years. My brothers has been stolen 3 times in 2 years, hardly damaged in the grand scheme of things, just replaced plastics and bent it back straight. What's to go wrong?
