Idling problem with my Neos

hi, i have a 2002 yam neos 50

History is i bought the bike, basically hasnt been on the road since 2003, probably been started every now and then. After giving it a fresh tank of fuel and 2 stroke oil, after being stubborn for 15 mins she finally started, after starting the first time every time following that it started pretty much straight away. But it fails to idle.

First job i changed the spark plug, bike would start but with the same symptoms. Then i removed the carb and gave it a thorough cleaning with carb cleaner, air line, removed bottom to release a possible water in float chamber. Refitted and tried it out still the same. Attempted to adjust the idle/mixture screws but failed to improve the fault.

fitted to the carb is an electrical componant, idle controller/solonoid?? not exactly sure myself but could that possibly the cause of an idle fault?

Any further suggestions would be brilliant! Thanks in advance!

Did you clean out all the jets? they are probably blocked up. If petrol is left to sit it turns in to a glue sort of stuff.

Cleaning the jets is a good start. But looks like you have already done that.

The electrical component is probably a thermo-element which is better known as an auto-choke. It heats up when the bike is below a certain temp. It may have died, which means you basically want to be revving her for a bit so she can warm up.

Other things to check are that airfilter is tightly connected to the bike. Make sure it is the idle screw you are actually turning.

You might wanna buy a new thermoelement. Failing that, get a pipecleaner and shove it down your idle jet just to be sure. There has to be something blocking it....
