Okay, A few things really.

First of all, If ive got music running via Media player, Got MSN open but not really running any windows as I always close the conversations off anyway.

And then the screen saver comes on, ive got slide show screen saver by the way with 5mp photos.
My music starts jumping.
Only with the moving photos on the slide show though, Not the stills.

So I can only put it down to memory lag. Too little RAM.

This is the sort of behaviour Id expect of my 1997 Win 98 32mb RAM Computer with a 5gb HDD. NOT a 1GB-RAM Dual core processor 120GB HDD machine.

Also I was wondering weather it may be down to the fact im now running my PC via a 40" Samsung HDTV via a standard monitor cable. (dont know the name of the cable)

Could this be anything to do with it?

Running Vista by the way.

Run Task Manager (alt+ctrldel) and look on the performance tab. This will tell you if you need more memory.

If you disable the screen saver does it still do this?
I would say 1Gb is the about the bare minimum for vista. As has been said already, look at task manager an see what the memory/cpu usage is doing.

Yeah, as said above I'd say 1Gb is the bare minimum for Vista, 2Gb is recommended!

There was a thread about skipping audio in Vista on here a couple weeks ago. From what I recall, the problem was sorted pretty easily. Might be worth having a look. Also, get some more RAM, you cheapskate.

nope its 512, i have run vista on 512 when it first came out Very Happy

This maybe caused by your graphics card, why are you using WMP? have you tried using winamp to see if it makes a difference?

using WMP yea. It only happens when im running the slide show screen saver with big photos. If I have "blank Screen" as screen saver then its fine.
So its clearly a memory problem.

here is my performance in task manager. it means nothing to me.

I used to get WinAmp skipping a few years back on an old machine if I opened a big application. It was down to the processor being loaded at that time and the MP3 playing suffered. I would think that more likely than your RAM, since you're asking it to open a largish file each time on your screensaver (there's little load to go on the RAM).

I'd agree with Silver. Your RAM in use figure of 537Mb is a good bit less than the 1Gb of RAM installed so its likely to be the CPU usage spiking or the hard disk causing a brief bottleneck.

My computer has 2GB of RAM, but generally only uses 1GB when doing basic stuff on the PC. Your computer will always try to conserve at least half the RAM for intensive programs.

For example on a machine with 1GB of RAM something like Windows Media Player may be subjected to only 60MB of RAM, but on a 2GB machine it will be allocated 120MB. You get my drift?

It will no way be a CPU spiking error, especially if it is a C2D as they are the plaything of gods.
